Which movie re-make do you like and which do you think should be remade?

I quite liked Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes. It's not as good as the original but it's a decent effort. And after watching Ghostbusters last weekend I think it would be great if a director like Peter Jackson got his hands on it and re-did it with better special effects.

I think the remakes of The Thomas Crown Affair and Oceans Eleven were both better than the originals.

I'd like to see Saw remade. I think the idea behind the movie was really good, but the budget obviously wasn't there so it came across as a bit of a cheap TV movie.

I don't believe in remaking films. I believe that we should leave a good film alone. The only exceptions to this rule are movie remakes done to honor the original writer or director and movie remakes done by the original cast or director. (Examples, The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, The longest Yard)\

I am completely against movie remakes of any other type, especially ones that change the entire nature of the original story. (examples: the nutty professor and every other possible remake)

I wish that Hollywood would leave great film making alone. And let it remain good film making. If they were to remake Total Recall, the Terminator, The Running Man, The Matrix, Lethal Weapon, or Any of Monty Python or Leslie Nielson's comedy films, not only would I be very angered, but I would start sending daily hate mail to all those involved in such remakes.

Remakes are always horrible. Only about 5 exceptions. People who do remakes should be kicked out of film making for life!

From a theatrical point of view most remakes are quite awesome. However if you enjoy "classics" (say pre 1965) it is hard to compete with the acting and the larger than life pageantry of the original movies. What makes the remakes is the special effects, what made the originals is the acting and story line so it all depends on what you are into or what reason you want to see the movie.

the movie remakes are always less worthy than the original ones.

the special effects are far better, because the directors command some informatics and the computer skilled persons to do various great scenes like Kingkong or planet of the apes.

but the stories are mainly the same and sometimes they add more foolish ideas than the original.

It depends what you mean by remake I finally got around to watching Italian Job 2 and I was expecting a thorough Hash, but apart from the director hijacking the name of a Classic I would not class that as a remake, whereas some scum from the pit of hell decided to redo Psycho scene for scene, absolute bile and what was the point apart from grabbing a few quid?
Dangerous Liaisons, Nikita, Three Men and a Baby, Sorry cousins across the pond come up with your own ideas stop ruining perfectly good films.

I would love someone to remake "flowers in the attic". I just watched it and it was possibly the worst film I have ever seen. Even though the book was a trashy hospital book it had a way better story.
I also really like the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate factory. I tried to remain loyal to my childhood version but the new one was brill.

The new Oceans Eleven was decent.
The new Casino Royale kicks @ss(its the 3rd made)

I think that the wachowski brothers should re-release an edtited version of reloaded and revolutions making one movie out of the fight, car, club, cavern, zion party and war scenes leaving out the real world smith, the two chicks running around with the bazooka and the other scenes of absolute waffle thrown in to make extra scenes to make two extra movies bastards-I hate the very end of revolutions too.

Dont get me wrong Matrix rocks.

Also remake of Terminator 3 without Clair Danes and that guy with big nostrils.
I liked the terminatrix but I wouldn't mind seeing Stallone in a terminator film-unlikely though...

The Ring was the best remake.
The movie I'd like to see done over would be V for Vendetta. It had an interesting premise but Natalie Portman was miscast and wrong for the part. I thought they could have done a lot more with it.

The best remake I have seen recently was the new "Dawn Of The Dead". The script was good, it was updated sympathetically and the zombies are a bit quicker on their feet!

Generally though, remakes are dodgy. They redid "The Omen" recently and it was virtually the same film as the original, shot for shot, but with worse actors. No bloody point to that at all if you ask me.
