There are several reasons for thsi problem, dead spots - phones dont always have a signal even when they are sitting in the same place, you could be dialing out when they are dialing in our two people call at the same time, getting a phone call and a text message at the same time. etc. etc.

What service provider? Sometimes it's as simple as your phone needing a tower update. Not sure about other carriers but there is a free way to update Verizon from your phone.
*228 option 2 about once per month will keep the latest updates on your phone, but make sure you are in a digital area before attempting.

Many a times its the cell phone reception that is active when your phone receives a new call. It can be remedied by adding a reception booster ($0.99), or investing in a new cell phone ($9-$500).
Also call your cell phone company, see if your area is one of the "dead spots". 99.9% of the time they will resolve your problem coz they need you as a customer.
