My dad is allergic to ALL pet dander, and it could kill him if I get a kitten or a puppy. My friends told me turtles are good pets, and would be good for my predicament. My only problem is that I don't know anything about them. I want a small one, and I would prefer it to STAY relatively small. Does anyone out there have any suggestions for me?

I had red ear sliders growing up. Snappy was our longest living as she is now 37 years old!! and living at the Cincinnati zoo. We can pick her out immediately because to let her sun herself outside we would tie a ling shoelace around her shell and over time it became a figure eight. Keeping the bowl small is key. They can grow to Snappy's size of about 13 inches around. We fed her house flies and raw hamburger amongst other things. Now she gets comets and catches her own. There is a law in Ohio that no turtle under 5 inches be sold because of tots putting things in their mouths. What ever the case..at least they are quiet.

I don't know about turtles either. I would suggest some online searches, but I also think books are a good resource. It's important that once you get a pet, you are already prepared to know how to care for it, handle it, feed it, and what to do if it gets sick. I am very glad you understand the importance of all that before you actually get a pet. Many people don't bother, and it's the pet that suffers.

turtles should not be eating pizza, finding on what style of turtles they're they could be eating quite a few vegetables (or small mice/fish for snapping turtles or different carnivorous ones) whether the turtles choose the pizza it is going to no longer be fed to them as this might reason wellbeing subjects.
