Why would you want to force this baby out if there is no medical reason for it ? If the baby is fine I would have to tell you not to be so selfish and let nature take it's course. Just so you know, induction usually make your labour MUCH harder on you, and usually end up in a c-section, takes longer to recover.

most of the time they will only induce for a GOOD reason, and not that you don't have a good reason, its just not a good medical reason. If your baby was going to be big like 10 lbs then they might, or they thought that you could be in danger then they would. I wanted to be induced with my middle child, and they wouldn't induce me until I was 1 week late. I had the baby the day before he was due. You can always ask though, it never hurts and maybe you can ask to be induced on your due date and then you and your husband would be able to plan better. ASK, you never know!!

You can discuss it with your ob/gyn, but first and foremost will be your baby's health. The longer the baby is in the womb and the closer to the due date and date of natural delivery, the better. 10 days ahead is a bit much to ask of someone just for the sentimentality of having a baby born on your dad's birthday. If you have a really good reason to want to be induced (and I think arguing that you need family around you and they need to have a set date in order to do that) the doctor may agree, but chances are the doc will want to set that date very close to your due date.

Good luck, but keep your priorities clear. The baby's well-being comes before all else.

Did you ever pull a cake or a roast chicken out of the oven too early?

The reason the recipe calls for a certain time to bake is that it takes that long.

Baby making is a pretty exact science...if your due date is 1/24, inducing labor 10 days early probably won't be an awful thing, but what if your baby misses the last few days he really needs?

Not normally, you need a medical reason to be induced, especially early. Plus, you do realize you may not have the baby on that day anyways? They induced me after my due date and they explained that if the meds did not work or if I "maxed out" (they can not safely give you any more) on the meds I would be sent home. I ended up with a c-section, so I didn't go home, but they were getting ready to send me home because labor did not progress. Plus, you do realize labor is harder and more painful (also takes longer) with induction? Oh and higher risks to baby and yourself. Is that all worth it anyways? But you would be hard pressed to find a doctor that will induce based on the fact on conveince for you and your family.

Well,I am 28 weeks pregnant and am having a planned c-section on February 15th.I don't know if they would just induce you though for non medical reasons.Just ask though-I am sure your Ob has been asked many times before. But the only women that I know that have been induced were either past their due date or else had a baby that they knew was going to be big so they needed to be induced 2 weeks early.

Most doctors won't induce because you want them to. It would be great. I have out of town relatives that would love to be here for the birth but well, my baby's health is more important. If they are then great, if not then they will see the baby shortly after it's born. The baby will come when it's ready. If there is a medical reason the baby needs to come out early then that's different.

I am 37 weeks my due date is December 17 but my son's birthday is December 14. I asked my doctor if I could be induced before my son's birthday since my due date and his birthday were so close she had no problem with it I am going to be induced on the 11th. I asked her would it put the baby at risk she said not as long as the induction occurred within one week of my due date it would be fine. So ask anyway you will never know until you try. Good Luck and congratulations.

They *might* but it would be a hard sell. Most doctors won't induce without a medical reason, or until you are past due.

I would say it's worth a shot if it's that important to you. Just remember that babies do best when they come on their own when they are done. Also being induced, especially for a first pregnancy leads to a higher rate of C-section. The reason for that is that your cervix isn't really ready to deliver.

I don't believe your OBGYN would want to induce you until you have reached your due date. This minimizes any additional risks of your baby being born before it's due date to ensure maximum brain and lung development for a healthy outcome. I was induced on my due date and this option was not offered to me until this date (at the earliest). The only way to know for sure would be to ask your OBGYN Dr this question.
