I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion, but I can assure you it is incorrect. Americans are the most generous people on earth. If you don't know any people that care about people in poverty, find a local chapter of Habitat for Humanity or join a Rotary Club or at least a church that has an outreach program. As the founder of a non-profit half-way house, I can tell you there are people all over that are willing to lend a hand to people that want to be helped. Rotary clubs in America and around the world are primarily responsible for the near eradication of polio worldwide. Lions Clubs help people in need of eyecare. Masons and Shriners build hospitals that provide care for those that can't afford it. Just about any group you can name has a need for more volunteers. Pick the issue you feel most strongly about and lend a hand instead of complaining.

I care and so do a lot of people. There are two websites I'd like you to check out, one.org and millenniumpromise.org. Be sure to spell millennium right and it's org, not com. That's a different thing all together. There's also a book that's much better than the webpages. It's "The End of Poverty" by Jefrey Sachs. I checked it out of the library just to have something to read. I put the book down at 4:00 am.

I put my money where my mouth is. I donate to Millennium Promise regularly.

Most of the people do care. The U.S. is the biggest contributor to the world as far as aide goes. Additionally, there are so many free handouts available to poor people in this country, probably too many. I think, if anything, we need to require more individual accountability. I've does service as food banks, and with specific families, and it amazes me what they can get. In some of the projects I worked in in Seattle, families in govt. subsidized homes, receiving welfare, etc. had monster TVs, killer stereo systems, new cars, etc. I think the money just needs to be funneled a little better.

The government of the USA cannot financially support the whole world. We need help. The UN has asked for money, and never is enough pledged. We want help into Darfur and the government of the Sudan will not allow the help in that needs to go in. We give alot of foreign aid-we cannot do it alone.

that's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! Do you have ANY idea how many BILLIONS of dollars we give away in aid to impoverished countries every year? Do you know how many thousands of AMERICANS volunteered their time and money to help people affected by the 05' tsunami?

Americans help EVERYONE!!!! You moron
Unbelievable!

Wouldn't you rather help your neighbor than someone five thousand miles away? I've never been overseas, I know that people have major problems but I would rather help out local people with the same problems. The US gives out an incredible amount to foreign aid

Yeah, that's right. I guess there must be some other reasons for spending so much money in foreign aid? Maybe you should get some facts to back that statement up before you accuse!!! Good Luck!!

Have you been living under a rock?! Just because you don't care, doesn't mean the rest of us don't. We are the most generous populace in the world. Wake up, Dude!

Some of us actually DO care. I do what I can for many people, but I am only one person and unfortunately do not have the resources to care for too many. It is really sad that the US takes better care of others than they do their own.
