Let it go where you found it! There are no snakes that can survive on a diet of crickets.

Find out for sure what kind of snake you have and make sure you are feeding him/her the proper diet, as well as having all the other living requirements.
Depending on the age of the snake and the part of the world you live in, you may have to prepare him/her for hibernation.
A good website is www.kingsnake.com....there is lots of info about all kinds of snakes there. Snakes are really a cool and fascinating hobby .
Also, not everyone has access to the 100 bucks it takes to buy a sand boa, the 200 bucks it would take to buy a new tank, heater, etc. Some people have to patch things together, but with a little ingenuity (and craigslist.org) they can make a suitable habitat for a snake. There is lots of information out there about do it yourself methods for building housing, etc.
Omigod, my age is showing. Back when I was a kid, it was natural, normal thing to find a snake, put it in a tank that you had laying around, learn about it.....not everything in this life has to be packaged with a gift certificate from petsmart.....If the animal is well cared for, it doesn't care if it is living in a 300 vivarium or a heated rubbermaid sweaterbox.

Well I see you have asked this again..now I know you got an average garter snake( which I know of since I am from Mass.) You really should read up on them to see if they actually eat crickets as opposed to mice, fish or worms...if you want a pet snake maybe you should get one that you know has been captive bred instead of wild caught since they can carry more diseases and parasites as for the cricket issue, if you do not know it is eating them you shouldn't continue to feed them, I would look all over the cage because if it is uninterested in eating and the crickets stay loose they and other feeders have been known to eat their predators instead of being eaten. If you want to have a small snake as a pet why don't you try a sand boa, they only get to be about 2 feet???????

I would like to see a pic of it if you have one. It sounds like a gopher snake. If it is they usually have two pin stripes, one on each side running along the length of it's body. In which case they eat in water and eat fish. You must provide a dish big enough for the snake to get into and get feeder gold fish or guppies for it to eat. Otherwise it would probably eat mice. Snakes don't eat crickets. The crickets are probably getting out of the cage. Do some research and find out what type of snake it is and what they eat. Snakes can go a long time without eating. When the eye of the snake turns cloudy, they won't eat and are shedding. Don't be alarmed, it's natural.

you got a nocturnal snake, most of them are. They eat at night. Why not be a responsible natureperson and let the snake go where you found it . Many of those reptiles are being kept in tanks and cages where they slowly waste away because a cage or tank is simply not the right place to live. How would you like to be put in a 4 by 8 cage for the rest of your life.? So have a heart and let it go before it dies .

Yep. Slugs, snails, fish and WORMS, small ones. Its also not eating cause its hibernation (brumation)time. Cool it down in the basement, 50-55 all winter, a hide box,no light, but keep a water bowl clean and full at all times. Come April-May you will have a whole new snake. Ignore the comment about if it wasnt eating it would be dead by now. Your animal is shutting down for the winter. Any uneaten food in the gut at these low temps can kill them. This is why they stop eating in the fall. Trust me, I bred them for 15 years. Give it low temps and a water bowl it will do fine...................until lateMay when the males want to mate and wont eat for 8 weeks again. Thats another story.........

well, if u haven't seen this snake actually eat the crickets them u should probable watch him/her. snakes can go very long without eating, about a month aproximately, but they should have water. if u know for sure the snake isn't eating the crickets then prhaps go to a vet, or u could find some other kind of food for ur pet.

Like Jim K said Worms! I doubt it will eat crickets. Keep it cool around 45-55 deges, till feb or march then feed it worms. Keep water in the cage while its hibernating. Good Luck

Well he probably won't eat right away, they can go no more than a week without food unless it's hibernation or sheding time. If he wasn't eating he wouldn't be alive right now.
