I think it becomes creepy when the child is in the double digits, like 10 years old.
I realize that the mother must take her child with her because she can't leave him/her unattended but it still makes me uncomfortable.

it does make me a bit uncomfortable but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. i'm sure the parent feels a little wierd about the whole thing, too. what age is too old? old enough to go by yourself seems like the right answer but that varies from child to child. also, this isn't an ideal world so there are other issues involved besides whether the child go potty without help. there are sick people out there so safety is a good reason to accompany a child to any public restroom. 5 years old is probably a good answer. a kid that old had better be potty trained and should probably have enough survival skills to yell for help if the need arises.

NO the "creep" factor is just a social norm imprinted into your way of thinking, another words it's up to you to percieve if it's going against your concept or ideal. Anyways, there are a few places with one of those "toddler" type restroom where parents can take their kids into . Otherwise, if a kid has difficulty going by themselves or if you feel uncomfortable for them to do so, simply try to atleast enter when coast is clear. And most would be understanding if done swiftly and appropriately. Otherwise, I have seen parents bring in their 6 year old and let them "hangout" while the parent is "going" , yeah that can be a bit uncomforting.

Yes, I do when they are past the age of 11. There once was a mother who didn't want her children outside alone which I can understand. She brought them into the restroom and the boy looked to be about 11 and girl about 5 or 6. While she was going the boy ducked his head to look underneath the stalls. Luckily I was not in one of those. Bet he was getting an eyeful though.

umm i think any where from 8-10 would start to get creepy but i can also see why parents do that because if they are a single parent and they dont want there 10 year old child going alone into a bathroom then i would say the age 12 but once they hit teenage years it is def creepy they should be able to take care of themselves

i think its different for the sex of the child. i dont think little girls need to go into a mens room if she is maybe....older than a young 3. boys i would say maybe 5-6. reason being. from a mothers side, mens restrooms are much more open, not too much privacy, and a little girl has probably been sheltered from the mans body. woman, most, are much more open about their bodies with their own children, so their not so curious. plus, womens restrooms are very private other than where you wash your hands. sexist or not, its a mothers view. single dads...i feel for you and your little girls, but i would never allow my little girl to go "potty" with daddy. i think mens restrooms should be more private like womens though too. lets get a petition going...

Creepy-ness starts at age 6-8 depending on the child.

For me personally, I have 2 daughters so I've lucked out in that department but if my Husband absolutely has to take our older daughter into a public restroom we are aware of "things" she might encounter or see so he covers her eyes and tries to be in and out as fast as possible as to not offend or make anyone uncomfortable. Sometimes kids just gotta go and if you've never had to clean up an "accident" you should consider yourself lucky, it isn't pleasant. I would spare having to clean up an "accident" over a strangers comfort anyday. I do have to agree that a child just gets to old to be doing certain things with mom and dad's help.

I think if they are school-aged, they should be able to go in the restroom of their own gender. I once chastized a mother who brought her school-aged son (about 8 or so) into the ladies' restroom at a Borders bookstore.

Well, it really depends. I would say that the age should be cut off around 3. Now, that's hard to do when it's just mom with her little boy and no one else to take him to the rest room, or vice versa. You certainly don't want to send your little one into a restroom unaccompanied, what if something happens to them, or what if they get into some kind of mischief?
