Do you really want your own government officials swearing an oath to a book that ultimately declares DEATH to America?!

Perhaps these verses taken from the Koran will help shed some light:

The Koran calls on Muslims not to befriend Jews or Christians? (Surah 9:30)

The Koran imposes "Jizya" (tribute tax) on Christians and Jews that will be collected only from them and not from Muslims? (Surah 9:29)

"If any one desires a religion other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him, and in the hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost." (Surah 3:85)

Resisting Islam: punished by death, crucifixion or the cutting off of the hands and feet (Surah 5:33)

Mohammed says that a Muslim may not be killed if he kills a non- Muslim. " No Muslim should be killed for killing a kafir (infidel non- Muslim) ."Al Bukhari Vol. 9:50

Is this the book you really want our American government officials swearing an oath to?

If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods that neither you nor your fathers have known, 7 gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), 8 do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. 9 You must certainly put him to death. Your hand must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people. 10 Stone him to death, because he tried to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 11 Then all Israel will hear and be afraid, and no one among you will do such an evil thing again.

12 If you hear it said about one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you to live in 13 that wicked men have arisen among you and have led the people of their town astray, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods you have not known), 14 then you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly. And if it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done among you, 15 you must certainly put to the sword all who live in that town. Destroy it completely, [a] both its people and its livestock. 16 Gather all the plunder of the town into the middle of the public square and completely burn the town and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the LORD your God. It is to remain a ruin forever, never to be rebuilt. 17 None of those condemned things [b] shall be found in your hands, so that the LORD will turn from his fierce anger; he will show you mercy, have compassion on you, and increase your numbers, as he promised on oath to your forefathers, 18 because you obey the LORD your God, keeping all his commands that I am giving you today and doing what is right in his eyes.

From the Constitution:

"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."

Oath OR affirmation, NO RELIGIOUS TEST - why don't you people know this? It is right there!

Do some research before you sprout something like this. First of all, elected officials don't have to swear on anything. They just hold up their right hand and promise to uphold the constitution. Second of all, if someone who doesn't believe in Bible swears by the Bible how can we know he means it? Third of all, why would you want to swear an oath by the Bible when Bible itself says don't swear an oath by it? Matthew 5:33-37 and James 5:12.

I would prefer that every politician take an oath on the constitution but barring that I would prefer Ellison to take his oath on the Koran because that way he would be more inclined to take his oath seriously.

It's no secret that the Koran reads like a handbook for barbarians... I think it's funny how everyone has to pretend that Islam is a beautiful, peaceful religion. It's like humoring a little kid who insists he's Superman. You go along with it, but eventually that crap gets old, though.

the question is based on Quran, and the selected verses are out of context.

It is just like one of those verses that quran says

dont say your prayers.....if you are intoxicated (under the influence of alcohol or such drugs)

so ppl read the first part of the verse, and ignore the second part, and often quote the first part only, and use it as an excuse for not saying their prayer 5 times a day.

sir, i would ask you to please seek help from a scholar in the religion of islam, and try to be impartial when u r reading quran or its translation, either on ur own, or assisted.

quran was revealed in arabic language. so to understand quran better, use 4 or five different translations.

i do have answers to the 4 verses of quran that youve quoted, and also to the hadith AL-BUKHARI is the collection of hadith, hadith meaning the sayings of prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).

but on the contrary instead of getting into an argument, i sincerely do hope that we should all seek help from the people who have an authority on the subject. and i have used the pronoun WE, not you. Even muslims born in muslim households need guidance and true understanding of the religion.

I would again request you all to read surah TAUBAH chapter 9, from which my friend has quoted selective verses from the very begining. the link to the translation:
http://quran.al-islam.com/Targama/DispTargam.asp?nType=1&nSeg=0&l=arb&nSora=9&nAya=1&t=eng

and from this link you could select other verses also

I pray to allah to please guide us all to the righteous path

You obviously know very little about the Koran. In the Koran, they praise Jesus and Jews as well. Islamofascists have actually gone against the Koran if you want to know the truth.
To answer your question, not every president has sworn on the Bible itself, so I think it should be ok. He is a good Muslim American.

Our elected officials should not swear to anything religious. That is a violation of the separation of church and state. Besides most have already sworn an oath to the almighty dollar.

I agree with the people who said the person elected to President shouldn't swear on any holy book

I don't think that scriptures of any sort need to be used. What if the official is an atheist, agnostic, Hindu, Buddhist or whatever?

Why not just have them swear to uphold the laws of the country and the office?

They shouldn't be swearing over a Bible either.

I mean, as a principle, it's stupid. Nor should we even get that close to mixing religions with government.

But... even by yours standards, there's PLENTY of violent and hateful passages I could pluck from the Bible that would seem idiotic to be swearing oaths over.
