He has got a former coach now managing Texas so he would be happy working with someone who helped him a lot on the A's.
However, one good pitcher won't get Texas into the playoffs. Even if we lost Carlos Lee, we still have good offense.
We lost Eaton and Padilla hasn't signed yet. He is a free agent. At this point in time, Texas doesn't have a very stable rotation. He will help Texas become a better team, I just don't know if one pitcher can make it or break it for the team.

I think he'd give them a potent 1-2 punch along will Millwood, but I think the young guys - Tejada, Benoit and Koronka - need to do a better job in the back end of that rotation before the Rangers can become a playoff team. Their offense should put up plenty of runs, but ERAs of 5+ aren't going to cut it, especially in the 3-4 spots.
I'm surprised to see so much negativity directed towards Zito. I know he hasn't repeated his success of 2002, but he's had a below-league average ERA every season and pitches 200+ effective innings a year. He might not be the ace everyone envisioned after that Cy Young season, but he's a front-of-the-rotation guy who should win 15-20 games a year.
As for the person who said they never saw him pitch a good game - I guess you must have missed the 18 games last season in which he gave up 2 runs or less, or the five starts between May 1st and 22nd when he gave up 3 runs in 33 innings.
I'd love to have Zito on my team, both because he's a great pitcher, and because he's an easygoing clubhouse presence. He might not be enough to push the Rangers to the playoffs, but he'll make that team a heck of a lot better.

Well, actually I do not think that Zito will go to the Texas Rangers. I think he is going to find the likes of another team, like the Yankees (maybe). If the Rangers do get Zito, I think they won't make the playoffs, but will come in 2nd in their division.

The Rangers for years have looked like a team that is about to put it together, but every year even with great talent they seem to find a way to screw it up. They have had excellent players and they either burn the players out by not giving enough rest in the middle of the summer when it is HOT or they just Barney Rubble there way through the season

Hey if u read the last paragraph, Scott Boras has gooten alot alot of money from them to his clients. Anyway, if they do sign him, they have a shot, but seriously they won't, the Angels look to be the best team in that divison, because the A's lost F.Thomas, and Zito. they still don't have a 5 man rotation, and they also lost Mathwees Jr, i dont think so, put it that way.

He will help Texas, but not to the playoffs. Texas needs a lot more help in pitching then just Zito!!

I definately think that if Zito goes to the Rangers, the team will not improve..Zito is one of the most overrated pitchers in the league..the Rangers need a big ace pitcher and a beastly out fielder..

Overrated or no, Zito is a fly-ball pitcher, going to a park where fly balls go a lot further in the dog days of summer.
Not a good move for the Rangers and a very poor career move for Zito.
Zito needs a pitcher-friendly park, with cold-weather benefits at both ends of the season. Detroit would be a better match-up for him.

There are some franchises that are destined to never go anywhere. If they couldn't do it with A-Rod I doubt very seriously that they will do it with Barry Zito.

Don't jump the gun. He's just visiting. Minaya wants him in NY as a Met and I would bet that that's where he will go.
The Rangers had Soriano, A-Rod and others that couldnt do it for them so I can't see Texiera carrying that team. They need Pitching and quality position players to make a run at the playoffs.
