I guess everyone is thirty years behind. A long time ago men were the main bread winners and had to earn the money for the whole family.
Things have changed, and so should the pay rate.
There are so many women providing for the family, now.
I guess they think men should have more money for themselves to buy gadgets or cars or whatever.....
Or maybe they think men are more generous.....please.
Whatever the reason it's going to have to stop soon....because in my opinion, most women are much better workers, multi-talented and do a much better job.
When people start realizing they are getting much more for their money... they will change their minds.
Men just expect more......because they think they deserve it....which is a big, fat fallacy.

As a person with many years in personnel/human resources, I can honestly say that this is not as true today as it may have been years ago. Jobs pay certain ranges of remuneration. Period. However, let's say there is a company with 6 people doing the same job. The pay starts at $30,000 per year with a "high" of $50,000 a year. Three people are men and three are women. All earn different pay (which should be confidential anyway!). The variance could be for many reasons. Maybe one man started there with 6 years at another company and excellent references and he was able to start at $42,000. A woman applied with maybe 2 years experience, then 1 year of maternity leave, and she started at $32,000. Another person was right out of college and he started at $30,000. Another has been with the company for 8 years and has had annual raises and so, due to loyalty, is now at top range of pay. There are always many extenuating circumstances and, for many women, the pay is lower because they have changed jobs often and have accepted a lower starting pay to begin with. Thirty years ago, men were paid more because it was generally a FACT that they were the sole income earners with a wife at home while women were working only until they got married. (In many cases this is still true and employers base their pay policies on EXPERIENCE in their field). You also must take into consideration the recent acceptance of employers of moms having to take time off to take kids to Doctors, or to leave on time due to day care needs while men have to do all the overtime. People used to get fired if they didn't comply and now comapnies must be more understanding and flexible. There are many instances where single people or men are starting to complain about being discriminated against because women get exemptions or special consideration and the single guys or childless people get to bear the brunt. No one is totally happy but that's life!

They agree to work for less when they negotiate for the job.
On a personal note:
They don't have to pay for as much as men do.
Example: I take a girl out to dinner and the movies. Dinner $12 each. Movie $8 each. I pay for the popcorn and sodas. $6 each. I pay for the gas to the movies. $3 Total $29
$29 divided by 40 hrs is $0.73 an hour more I have to make to pay for what she got for free. My wife works but I pay the mortgage, car payments, insurance, groceries, well... everything. The examples where women get stuff free is limitless. They need to stop complaining. I think it is more than fair and equitable. I think if these women calculated everything in that they get for free based on tradition they would see that they come out way ahead.

What sort of job is it? I read a study where they analyzed the top 100 males and top 100 females for physical conditioning, and when they compared them without regards to gender, 93 guys still held their top spots and only the last 7 guys got beat out by women. It could be that they're more productive.
Otherwise, if it's something like human resources, it could just be that wherever you're at it really is unfair and majority and tradition are oppressing.

To a degree it's because women just don't have as much experience as men- but I'd say in many (most) careers, this is quickly changing. For the most part its just part of the old boys network- and the old fashioned belief that men should be the main bread winners, while the wifey just works for pocket change.

They don't make more money for the same work, but in many cases, they aren't doing the same work. I work in a big company with many women superiors, and they make more than me. I work with some good programmers doing the same job as me, but I don't have a degree, so I don't make as much as them.

i often wonder that too.
I work for in transport and just recently a man has started doing the job that I used to do but he gets paid more money than I got.
It baffles me - I think it may be something to do with the fact the women don't have willies!!

It may depend on what kind of job you're looking at. I work at London Zoo, and both men and women are paid equally.

The reason being,it's still a male dominated world in the age of careers.
Men haven't got used to the idea of women not being tied to the kitchen sink, with babies screaming at their ankles.

men are more logical and practical then women.they do have the capacity to decide fast and do some changes in the set rules but women just stick to the rules.
women dont change things around themselfs and the work.
