My sister(her mom) already had the sex talk with her I know that and Kelly(the girl) knows not to have sex her mom told her wait until you are married to have sex she said she will. :-)

13 years old is the common age to start experimenting masturbation.
Allow her to have her privacy on that.
As for the sex talk: Your sister can tell her to not have sex until she is married, but doesn't mean she will. Have to respect the fact she will assert her sexual being when she feel she is ready as the rest of your family has. Just because she is masturbating doesn't mean she is sexually active or has desire to be. Masturbation is a personal intimate thing to explore the body and release those hormones that young teens get. It is healthier than expressing those hormones with another human being. So, allow her to have her privacy. I am sure she is just as embarrassed as you two are about catching her.

It is a normal thing. She is discovering her body and experimenting. At least she's not one of the 13 year old pregnant girls on here asking questions...as far as you know. I would ask her if she has any questions and if she hasn't had the "birds and the bees" talk with her yet, perhaps its time to address this. This can be a very confusing and freightning time for adolscents and her daughter needs to know that she can approach her mother if she has any questions. Don't punish her or make a huge deal out of it or make her feel guilty. There is nothing wrong with masturbation and its perfectly safe and there is certainly nothing to be ashamed of.
As far as your wondering "how old is too old"...How old is too old to what? Masturbate? There is no such thing. Perfectly healthy adults masturbate all the time. There is such a thing as too much. If you can't keep your own hands off yourself for more than 20 minutes, I think that's a tad excessive. But I'm sure most adults will tell you that they still do it and still enjoy it.

It is very normal, and healthy. Don't you think it is better to have her masterbating that to be having intercourse?
Also, if you make a big deal of it now, she may develope unhealthy shame ridden attitudes about sex.
You should talk to her about it in a non-judgemental way. You may want to ask your doctor about it just to get the 'professional' opinion. But if you grill her and she withdrawls, she may not trust you on the really big issues in her life. I told my daughter that it was better for us both to be embarrassed and have her come to me, than for her to get some stupid and ignorant answers about sex, drugs, etc. from someone else. Trust is the key issue here.

Masturbation is 100% normal, better that she's pleasing herself than finding a guy to do it for her huh?? There's nothing wrong with being curious, and personally who cares if she's touching that area anyway, if you got an itch, you itch it because it feels good, massages feel great, and so do things that she's doing, she's curious, so let her learn, this is only 5 years before she is considered an adult and can go and die for our country in the military, so 13 is definitely not too young or old, take care!

I would also say it's completely normal. Don't yell at her for it. Also, maybe now is a good time to talk to her about sex if you already haven't. Everything- how you can get pregnant even if you use birth control, how you can get Stds and Aids, everything you can think of, let her know about it all... I know some parents don't, and that's why there's so many kids asking questions on here about it, and if they aren't on here, who knows if they are getting answers.

I think its completely normal. I woulden't make a big deal about it to her because she might get really imbarrased. The sex talk is good and she should be fine . I think I was like 10 or 11 when I started. She is just getting to know her body goodluck

She might be sexually active already. You or your sister should talk to her and get her in to see a doctor. You might want to put her on birth control.

What do you mean how old is too old? I'm 21 and still do it...everyone does it...its not a big deal and if you make a big deal about it your going to make her ashamed of it and she shouldnt be.....
