Hey, I love riding and horses but one thing I always battle with is plaiting/braiding a horses mane nicely and neatly. Whenever I plait manes I end up dropping half the hair or there are a whole lot of pieces sticking out. I'm gonna go on a riding camp and would love to plait my horse's mane perfectly so pls give me any tips or info on plaiting! Also I'm trying to decide whether to put blue or gold ribbons on the plaits. The horse I ride is a chestnut thoroughbred so which colour do you think will suit her best? Thanks

I find that a styling gel works well. Something cheap and that comes in a tub as you will use a fair bit. It washes or combs out easily. Using a plaiting comb run the gel through the mane. You will find it makes the hair smoother and easier to braid, a lott fewer stray peices. As for colour of ribbon - go with blue.

When you braid your horses mane instead of the strands of hair being round, flatten them with your fingers. If you put a little bit of baby oil in your horses braids it would help. The oil will keep the braid from frizzing. I think blue and gold together would look good on your horse.

1. Try to use detangler or show sheen to make it so their is not so much sticking out everywhere.

2. They have plastic dividers at tractor supply or your local tack shop to help you keep the sections seperated and helps you to keep ahold of the hair.

As far as the ribbons I would actually go with both I think it would be a really nice contrast the Yellow on the Blue.
