According to Guiness Book of Records, the smartest person in the world is Marilyn vos Savant who scored IQ 228 Terman as a 10 year old. This would, according to recent research, correspond to about IQ 185 at adult age.

Friend - A person's IQ does not indicate how smart they are, only their ability to learn and retain specific information. All people are "smart", each in their own individual way (there are a plethora of intelligences and everyone has at least one and some have more).
The smartest person I know on the planet is Makito Montybony and he sometimes answers questions on Yahoo Answers. No one has ever been able to rate his IQ.
I give the highest IQ numbers to those with the intelligence to look up the answer on the device in front of them, the computer.

Perhaps indeed Marilyn vos Savant officially scores the highest IQ; and Stephen Hawking may be the most brilliant scientist of the current era; however, in my humble opinion Bill Gates is at this moment the smartest individual, based on the ability to thrive most successfully in his environment, change the world to his own financial benefit, and then make use of those financial resources to improve the world on his own terms.
