Run a gallon of brown vinegar through the whole cycle. This will also clean out your dishwasher of most all of the gunk.

A dishwasher repairman taught me this and ever once in awhile I do this to keep my dishwasher in tip-top repair.

It is the gunk that is making your dishwasher smell

they actually make dishwasher cleaning fluid now. its in the dish soap, jet dry section. basically you run a load on hot empty with this little bottle in the dishwasher. it gets rid of lime, soap scum etc.
ive also put bleach into an empty load (in the closed soap holder) and run it on hot before too.
you may also wanna take out your bottom shelf and make sure theres no food particles in the drain section fouling things up.

Use baking soda and leave it there until the smell is gone. If it isn't I suggest get a can of oust or glade to remove the smell.
