I am a heavily tattooed female. When I have my tattoos covered, people talk to me like like a human being. When I have on short sleeves and my tattoos are showing, people stare, gasp, grab their children, will not talk to me, etc.. Why is this. I am a normal person. Just more colorful.

My left arm is done completely in leopard print. The other tats are stars, birds, pin-up chick (which is fully clothed and is covered by clothing 99% of the time) no skulls, demons, satanic stuff.

They may be looking at them because of the art. I have seen some very interesting and pretty ones.

I have relatives (brother) and many friends that have tattoos (I do have to say that they don't look as good on people once they start to fade and the skin starts to wrinkle/sag).

However, I generally do no like tattoos. I think the human is body is pretty enough without tattoos. Furthermore, I have told my daughter that she is so beautiful that earrings are just a distraction from her natural beauty so she would be better off without them.

Having tattoos does not make you not normal, though.

Some people MAY (and I don't know this for a fact) associate tattoos with drunken sailors, convicts, bikers, etc. since they seem to be common among those people. So MAYBE that is what some people think of when they see tattoos on people. ...just an idea.

If they make you happy then it really doesn't matter if other people like them or not.

What are the tattoos of.

personally, if a see some very nice tattoos, I look at them. If the person asks, I respon that I am admiring the workmanship of thsoe tattoos.

Tattos are (currently) viewed as indicative of a biker/outlaw/fringe person lifestyle and DEFINITELY not someone to bring home and meet the parents

Because people who are covered in tattoos, especially women, tend to look like psychopaths. People question your intelligence and common sense when they see your tattoos. Normal people don't cover their bodies in tattoos.

If I grow a full beard why do people act suspicious around me? It is because people have preconceived notions associated with these things, beards and tattoos.

People are ignorant - they would rather judge your appreance then get to know you. They probably assume that you are gang or mob related or something stupid. Oh well you know that these will not be peope that you want to get to know anyways.
