My friend is getting married this summer, but thinks that her fiance is still married. Where can we get a copy of his divorce papers online with out it costing us money? Any help would be appreciated!

There are some places you can look online. Do a search for "free public record" somethimes they break it down by state then county check that way

Depending in which state the divorce happened, it is possibe, at times, to look in the District Clerk's website and see if you are able to download a copy of the Final Divorce Decree. You may want to find out what Court had jurisdiction over the case and call the court asking if they have a website. Good luck.

If you can find out what county the divorce was filed in, you can go up the the district court house. Normally they will have a publc access computer nearby and you can look for the file. In most places you can even ask to see the file. Just look in the computer for a case number. It will be the year filed followed by D or DM and then a case number. (EX. 04 DM 456)

She should ask him to prove that he is free to marry and show her a copy of the final decree.

if you know what town , city, all you have to do is hit the courthouse, it's public record...
