I say, yes. If parents would take up more of a disciplinary role instead of letting schools, we whould have less teen violence. Parents need to control there kids. You made them they are your responsability until they reach consenting age then its the law enforcments problem.

I agree wtih you 100%. I work at a haunted house during October, I can't tell you the number of middle school aged kids that would come through being just flat out obnoxious. Swearing and telling people off they don't know, my parents would have slapped me if I had done any of the things they are doing. What's even sadder is that I see it at the fast food place I work at, the 14 and 15 year olds are in such a rush to grow up and be an adult they act like animal asses. They have no respect for people older than them...I'm just lucky they think I'm 18 half the time...I don't look my age...even though I'm in my mid 20's.
If more parents took charge of their children rather than just drop them off at daycare, or leave them at home unattened, and talked to their kids and disaplined them (and MEAN IT) we would have this much of a problem with kids these days.

I agree they need more discipline. In the old days, discipline was a good beating. Now, parents can't do that. The alternative is to educate yourself on the various methods and see what works for your child. Unfortunately, that takes effort, so those parents who are lazy, stupid, or both just don't make the effort. As a result, we have more out of control kids than ever before. Do we go back to beatings? No. But we can possibly give some incentives, tax breaks, whatever, to have them attend classes. I know that's not right and that parents should do it just because they are parents, but again, they are lazy and stupid.

Yes most of them certainly do lack discipline which should be taught at home but mostly they lack respect which sadly to say is lacking in most homes today. I see it all the time at school. The worst thing about that is that parents see their children as angels and think they can do no wrong so it is very hard for teachers and those in authority to correct them when they do not get the parent's approval.

I agree with that. To many parents have let money, greed, selfishness and the whole 'keeping up with the Jonses' thing become more of a factor than raising good children.
That, and they need to get outside more! Get these kids off of video games, computer's, etc.....

A lot of them do. A small handful of parents still believe in rules and discipline but a lot of them just let them run amok and then if anything goes wrong they sue someone else for it.

I agree. I am not so sure that it would curb teen violence, but it would make the world a much nicer place with fewer bratty little kids running around. Which I am all for!

I say NO, but I do think that the parents need to spend more time with them.. But in todays society and working class need to work more to make more money to support the family, then there isn't enough time spent with them to supervise them being raised.

Yes I totally agree because if we had discipline now days kids would not end up in jail and in mental homes so often.

parents often let their kids get away with being smart alecks and don't reprimand them in the right way
it seems like they want their kids to be independent and allow them personal freedom
in my opinion this is not the way to go about that and they turn out to act like jerks and disrespect their parents in front of others in public places.

its true people dont take care of there kids right, but even if they do there best there is always that one group of kids that wont listen no matter what. and im sure some parents do try, there just scared or worried about there kid hating them for it, but they will be thankful later in life.
