Every year I put up all white Christmas lights. This year while I was putting up my lights a neighbor complained because I was not using colored lights. She said that I wasn't being sensitive to the plight of the colored lights and I was repressing them. By using all white lights I was not being "hue diverse". She and several other neighbors are filing a class action suit to have me include colored lights that would represent the community of lights more equally. I like my white lights...
What should I do???

{added} I showed my neighbor that if you hold a prism in front of the lights... you can see all of the colors of the rainbow. She didn't appreciate my coalition.....

You can't be serious, are you?
Look, they have no case because unless you live in a covenant controlled housing complex, you have the right to decorate how you want.
Here in Colorado there was an ordeal regarding a peace sign wreath on someone's house in the Southwest part of the state. The person lived in a covenant area and was told that if she didn't take down the wreath, she would be fined $25 a day. The problem was that it was considered a symbol of protest on the Iraq war and the peace sign is supposedly viewed as a symbol of Satan by some Christians. But it was eventually resolved and she was allowed to keep it.
White lights can be very pretty and there is no shame in it. The choice you make colorwise for Chrismas lights does not reflect what you think about color in terms of people's skin or so forth. That person that started this complaint is a little paranoid I think.

If it's your house and your property they can't make you do anything, NOT EVEN THE COURTS! a judge would laugh at someone trying this. They can tell you they are going to file a class action all they want but they can't, It wont happen. And there is nothing wrong with using white lights. I only have white myself. Your neighbor should mind there own business!
If there doing it so the whole street matches, I might think about using some color. But if that's not the case then tell them to keep to there self's.

This is absolutely rediculous, this is your house, your property, which you have paid for and no one can tell you what to do...ESPECIALLY tell you what color lights you have to have on your house!!! I say file a suit back against them for using colors and also state that they are all being sensitive to the plight of white lights and they are not representing them. So sweetie...do whatever you want....and if i were you...i'd add a couple extra white strings of light into the bunch just to tick them off more than before. Whatever you do, do NOT give into them. You have a right to do whatever you want to do to your own house!!! This is not a communism!! lol What kind of community do these people come from???

I think white likes can look very elegant, but perhaps your community has an ordinance that requires you to put up colored lights. If this is the case, you should change your lights or take them down. But if not, keep up your white lights. They can look very beautiful. I don't see this case lasting in court at all. Your neighbors aren't in charge of you. Just sounds like people that have had a little too much eggnog.

Sounds to me like the community is the one with the problem about lights NOT you. It really sounds quite silly to me that the color of lights represents a community. The people represent the community NOT the color of Christmas lights....I mean really come on! Do your homework and go prepared to fight for your light choice, freedom....hello!!!

Man that sucks and that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. It is your own dang house and people cannot tell you what to do. I know what I would tell them if you get the idea. You tell those inconsiderate morons that it is your house and you will put anything you want on it. Do these morons not have anything better to do with their time? Fight them all the way. Don't step down and stand your ground! Good luck to you.

oh i wish i had neightbors like you i realy do if someone comes up to me telling me what i should or shouldnt put i n my house i would be very very upsdet and i would tell them that that is absolutely none of their bussiness, i think that you have absolutely every right to out the color you want if you feel like putting them black is your problem, and you never disrespect them for their preferences of color and neither should they, if thats what you like do it, and i think that they will be violeting some how freedom of expression by making you do what they want, remember is your house and you are paying money to your HOA they need to work for you not the other way around!!
best of luck !!!!
