Believe me, when independents like myself voted in democrats,we weren't thinknig about religion. We were thinking about the Iraq war, the violations on the constitution, the rampant corruption that comes from an uncontested government, and the lack of willingness to represent the voters. And if reps continue to be out of touch with the voters, we will vote for a democratic president as well

It most certainly is not wolves in sheep's clothing. There are liberal Christians. Most tho don't wear their religion on their sleeve. I am liberal/liberatarian on many social issues and a christian-- no I'm not a socialist as the guy below me suggests.

Dems/Libs have been accused, and rightly so, for ignoring the Christian, southern, rural parts of the country becuase they never thought they could expect their votes. It is/was an arrogant and ignorant policy.

Their move not is, yes to win elections, but also to be more inclusive. Why is it so bad to try and reach out to build bridges?

Many on both the right and the left try to take issues that affect a small number of people and try to drive wedges in the country.

This is not true at all. There is a large Christian left in this country, they simply have not been motivated politically in the same ways that the evangelical Christian right has been recently. Yet many Democratic policies ought to be attractive to Christians, such as universal health care, as the idea of helping the poor, equality, and loving all is a very Christian idea.

Funny thing, but I think that if Jesus was running for office today, he would be running as a progressive democrat. And what do I base that on? The Sermon on the Mount, of course. Read it. You might learn something.

i am sure you are right, opinionated, but the sad fact is i also believe that anytime that anyone invokes christianity into politics, it is purely for selfish reasons. be it democrat or republican. christians are a goldmine in the game of politics. no one can win without their support. therefore, both sides are playing to them. in the last election,we were duped, not only by bush, but by the rest of the republicans. we were HAD. plain and simple. now the demos are trying to beat the republicans at their own game. and it is a game, to be sure.neither party, or candidate, has anyone's interests , but their own at heart. they are a selfish, utterly greedy, bunch. i suggest to anyone, before they vote, look at a candidates record. that speaks volumes about the candidate, which he, by telling you that he is a "christian", will do. that game will not work on me this time, as it did before. i still consider myself a republican, but will no longer give blind credence to one simply because he calls himself a "christian".

Progressive Christian...hmmm. It makes me shudder. For me, I don't want my religion and politics mixed. Isn't that just another group with a religious agenda instead of a political agenda?

well it's saying that they are also christian, but not crazy right wing nutjobs (like jerry falwell) -- progressive is a term that's been around for a long time, so no, they didn't just think it up.

they did win though, didn't they? I guess their trickery worked.

progressive christians are not fooled by the ignorance of the self-righeous republican religious right of the robertson and falwell ilk.

I think it's further proof that the Weak Sisters will stop at literally nothing in their attempts to further their socialist agenda.

"Progressive" Christians, indeed!
