Well, it is a very festive time.
Instead of Santa Clause, the children get gifts from the Three Kings.
Also, it is more customary for gift giving to be done for the children, not like here with brothers, sisters, mom, dad, uncle......
They also have La Posada which is a reenactment of the travels of Mary and Joseph looking for a place to stay. It is a neighborhood type of activity and brings the community together. You go from house to house with a "Mary" and a "Joseph" and others, singing songs in hopes someone will let you in for the Posada, then there is some type of activity that occurs, I don't remember what though - sorry. It's gotta be something like prayer, food and more singing!
This is info my mom has shared with me.

-yes the posada stuff it´s correct but the gifts from the three wise men are on January the 6th.......and we do believe that santa claus delivers the presents, some others prefer to say it´s the baby Jesus who delivers just to make it more real and special.
-We celebrate of course the birth of Jesus placing beneath the xmas tree a nativity scene with mary, joseph, the baby jesus(wich we place on xmas eve), the mule, the cow, an angel, and the three wise men basically.
-We have a turkey/mashed potatoe/gravy dinner with other traditional dishes from the different regions of Mexico.
-In the "posadas" we also break a 7 peak piñata (that represent the 7 capital sins) and sing xmassy songs, eat the traditional "tamales" (so yummy).
-We also decorate our houses with lights and xmas tree

well, la posada is an important part of it. it's a recreation of how mary and joseph asked to stay at an inn, but couldn't. the real fun part is the pinata that you have at the end. not the tied to a tree pinata, but we make it so it moves. Oh, and by the way, you're not only being blindfolded, but the pinata is basicaly a ceramic pot with paper mache on it and decorated. Now THAT, is really fun. especialy when the stick breaks. it always brakes.
