The belief that it is absolutely required to buy Xmas gifts when the light bill is unpaid, the rent is behind, the car payment is due, and unemployment runs out in 3 weeks.

I have known those who have been in this predicament and still went out and spent hundreds of dollars they could not afford on things the kids were going to tear up in two weeks anyway.

Sad but true, our society has become so obsessed with buying that they ruin their lives.

Commercialism and superficial-ism. There is nothing wrong with giving gifts BUT they ought to come from the heart, not from the wallet. You SHOULD NOT buy something for anyone, be it at Christmas or any other time, with the intent of receiving anything in return, that includes gratitude. It's nice to receive something in return, particularly a thank you, but it SHOULD NOT be the reason for the gift. Just the thought that you made that certain someone's day just a little better because they know you are thinking of them SHOULD be thanks enough as well as the greatest gift of all.
On that note, I offer my gift to you:
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

There is to much emphasis on receiving gifts. If someone like to give gifts that is one thing but nobody over 14 should expect gifts.

Wishing everyone you hate the rest of the year, "Merry Christmas." It is similar to those that go to church every week, to profess their Christian love for their fellow man, and then shaft people the other six days.

The way people act and the fact that they don't even celebrate the birth of Christ.

Hmmm, could it be the link with Jesus and the idea that he was born on that day but Jesus himself never spoke of this nor did the Bible ever teach such an idea? Oh and the putting up of the tree before Thanksgiving...............
