I grew up in Buffalo, and we took many day trips to niagara falls. you must certainly go to the canadian side, but no matter where in the world you are coming from, it is worth the trip. it's an incredible wonder. beautiful and romantic. you can actually go behind the water fall itself, it's too incredible for words. and if you go in the winter sometimes the falls actually freeze. it's stunning, bedazzling, awe-inspiring....

My Hubby and I were there last year September. we had alot of fun.
We were on the Canadian side of the falls.
Must Do's:
Maid of The Mist ( stay on left side of boat for good drenching)
Walk beneath the Falls.. the tunnels are amazing (audio tour available in multiple languages)
Walk Along the Falls ( See the rushing water of the Falls... and see the barrels people have tried to go over the falls.
Butterfly Conservatory ( great for kids and adults... so many butterflies) do the carriage ride around the gardens of the conservatory awesome and relaxing.
Clock, face of clock made up of flowers... not all that but innovative.
Check out Niagara Adventures for affordable tickets to all of the above attractions and more.
Clifton Hill... amust for thrill seekers, try the FX thriller 4 D fun at its best.
Ripleys and Guiness Records fun and fact filled ....no where near to boring...very good lay out.
Marvel SuperHero, Legends of the Falls
Casinos...nuff said
Marineland, aquarium and amusement park in one...takes an entire day.... pay at the booth to play with the killer whales.
Wine tasting at Niagara on the Lake
Light show on the falls at night
Not for the faint of heart but the fast boat rides that take you to the whirlpool and drench you before you can blink.
Lots more to do I am sure....I was there for 2 weeks and didn't get it all in....

We drove from Ohio to Boston during the holidays, stopping by Niagara Falls on the way. It is certainly breathtaking. However, you need to be on the Canadian side. The US side has all these guardrails along the sides. Canada has a much better landscape. Also, there are lots of things to do on the main street on the Canadian side. It's a little touristy, but at least it's entertainment. Also, there's a casino, but during our one day stay, the line was way too long to try to get in.

I would have to say my "recommandation" is that it "does worthing." Ha. I drove by offramp a few times in years previous only to regret not going when I got home. It is a beautiful sight and there are a lot of interesting tourist sites surrounding the falls. I recommend at least a day to explore the US and Canadian sides. The border patrol folks will try to harass you because they don't have anything better to do (as opposed to the SD/Tijuana crossing). Also remember to bring 50 cents each person to the border because Canada tries to "nickle and dime" you by making you pay to cross back to the USA.

I live in Niagara Falls, Canada. The waterfalls themselves definitely are beautiful, but it is different when you live here and can see them everyday. I am sure it would be a more exciting experience for someone who is visiting the area. The summer is peak tourist season, but the winter is another experience in itself. Definitely cold, but there is the Winter Festival of Lights to see and the falls look different in the winter.

I was there about 11 years ago (during the month of July)...I would absolutely love to go back! Absolutely Beautiful! Weather conditions were perfect. If you go....make sure you walk across the bridge (border) and see the falls from both sides (when I was there you could walk across the border to the Canadian side without any hassle)...and do the tour that takes you down into the falls on trails...and the boat ride into the falls. If you don't go....your missing out!!

The Falls themselves are awesome, but the city has become a loud, expensive, ridiculous tourist trap (pretty much a cheap, trashy version of Las Vegas). Visit the Falls by all means, but also go to Niagara on the Lake (a few miles north).

Been there many times. Used to live an hour away. Yes, it is majestic. HOWEVER.. the Canadian side is much more fun. There is more to do there than the American side. If you plan on going make sure it's the Canadian side (it's not much further) (bring your passport). Canadian side has wax museums and a lot of great restaurants.. plus a cute little town. American side doesn't have enough to see beyond the falls.
Also, if you plan on going now.. bring warm clothes. The mist in the air combined by the winds make it pretty chilly.

I have been to Niagra two times and it is cool but not awsome or anything. The falls themeselves (Canadian) are pretty (US so so)but they are surrounded by really sleazy bars and amusments. It would have been different if it was in the wilderness or somewhere beautiful, but Buffalo is a crappy place. But if you like Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach, and cheap vacation thrills. You'll probably like Niagra. Just don't go in the winter!
