Hi. I will make this as simple as possible. I am divorced. My ex and I get along fine. I have custody of our 2 girls, he has custody of our boys. After the divorce, we both went back to school full time and were on state aid. I graduated and took myself off of the aid. Now the state says I owe them $12,000???? They say I don't owe it to him, but I owe it to them....? I am not a wealthy woman and I don't make that even in a year. If I were to retain a lawyer, is there even anything they will be able to do for me? I would not have gone back to school and been on the aid had I known this would happen!

Sounds like Kalifornia. They sent me a bill for $20,000. With interest that's $43,000 now. I'm unemployed. :-(

I don't mean to be rude, but you graduated college and make less than $12,000 a year. What on earth did you major it?
