Well, coming from the Rock and Roll era and through Vietnam, I find that most rock music nowadays, reflects the drive that everything is screwed up, and nothing matters! That is like taking a lesson from the media!!! I have never seen the world or life that way as when I were growing up or coming out of Nam. By the way I am 60 today and feel 40!! Also, most of the music, or what passes for music, is not positive and very negative, the media is not positive, so that leaves the individual the option to suck it up, and get up and succeed in spite of all of the negative BS or drown in their negative BS!! America is the greatest place to live, better than 'nam. Here you can be what you what to be, I know I came from nothin' and made a success of myself inspite of the negative crap and we had negative crap back then! The music of today, is negative because negative sells, look at the media, lesson learned. So you make your music! Rock n' Roll, baby, Little Richard style....... Have a great day... Charlie

Depends on what you mean by rock music. I bet there's tons of Christian rock that's considered positive. Aside from that, off the top of my head I'd say that song "There Goes My Hero" by The Foo Fighters is a pretty positive song.

Mostly, though, I think it's about that music (popular music, anyway) is now geared towards teenagers, who are generally sullen, angry and/or questioning. We also live in a very cynical time.

Other songs that occur to me: "Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous" (I think it's supposed to be funny; they treat it that way in the video) and "1984" or something by Bowling for Soup (but again, I might just be thinking of the video).

I suggest widening your scope to see what you can find. Maybe more alternative (Scissor Sisters?) or more underground you'll find what you need.

I'd guess in a post 9/11 world, the music would reflect the times. Just a guess...Though I do think some of the more upbeat, fun & quirky stuff is being done mostly by indie bands.

Happy stuff is out there. Y'just gotta dig for it....
