My son turned 3 months old this week. WE have been working with him on sitting up. He can stay sitting up for about 1-2 minutes by himself then he flails his arms or something and falls over. Does this mean he isn't ready to learn yet or does he just need more practice?

Like I said on my other question (which I didn't mean to post twice, but accidently hi button too many times lol):

I don't like force him to do it. He's loves to sit up and look around so I just sat him down one day and he sat there for about 1 minute by himself so we've been working on it.

He can hold is head up and support himself great. He is very good at it. He's been supporting his own head since he was abou 3 weeks old.

Well done for being the kind of parent to get involved, but remember not to overstimulate your little one. He'll get it properly in a few weeks- and don't forget to give him the all important tummy time too!

I think that you should just let him decide for himself when he is ready to sit up. Pushing him is only going to frustrate him. All kids develop skills at different ages. my first born didn't do much of anything until 6-7 months and that includes having any head control. My second born was sitting up at 3 months, crawling at 4 months and walking by 8 months. My third is only 2 months old and hasn't done much more than hold his head up. They are all perfectly normal. Leave him alone to develop his skills in his own time!

wow your son is moving fast. My son is almost 16 weeks old and doesnt sit up by himself. He doesnt even hold his head up steadily all the time. He's doing good with it but it still wobbles a little. He doesnt turn over yet either but he trys sometimes. I wonder if this means my son is behind then? He was 3 weeks early though..maybe thats why.

He is probably not ready just yet. The muscles in his neck and back are probably not strong enough. But don't let that stop you from working with him. My kids sat up at around 5-6 months old by themselves.

It's a little early to start practicing with him. At this age he won't be able to balance well and the slightest thing (like flailing his arms) will tip him over. I'd start practicing with him at 4 1/2 months..or 4 months at the earliest.

If he enjoys it and is ready go for it.
my daughter was and I put her in a johnny jump up with blankets around her.(so she could not slide out)
On the floor practice lots of pilllows and blankets.
Relax
you are doing a ok job!

buy him a Bumbo seat! they are awesome and you can start from 8 weeks (depending on head control)
