Because if a fat greasy guy were the life guard, imagine how many people would rather die than be touched or be given mouth to mouth by him, lol. I could ask the same thing about the female life guards, why are some of them soo hot?. Good question though.

Because we take pride in our appearance and firmly believe that our appearance reflects pride in our position. Doesn't matter whether we're a lifeguard, medic, EMT or ride attendant, many of us just want to be perceived as good at our jobs. Being fit helps with that perception.

Because there are too many shallow people out there that prefer a good looking guy to give them CPR than some big fat hairy dork. Looks to me that when your only options are to live or die, it shouldn't matter who is saving your life. But that's just me...

Because they tan a lot....they have to be phsyically fit to be able to save people...and they spend a lot of time outside, which can do a person a lot of good!
