On about September 13th I preformed oral on someone. Both me and him are virgins, and we were the first to experience this (no past sexual partners). The thing is about a day afterwards, I felt a tingling feeling on my lip and I immediately got a read bad cold sore on there. It eventually went away like in a week, and everything was fine. I never had itching on or near my vagina, and the guy I was with is fine as well.

Is there any chance of my getting genital herpes from him? I am just so worried. Please help! If we haven't ever been sexually active amongst anyone else, I should be okay, right?

Yes, there isn't any. Herpes is caused by a virus. Actually, there is little cure for viruses nowadays. The only thing that you can generally do in the case of a viral infection is strengthen the immune system and hope it fights it off. Not with Herpes, the immune system can't win against it. Thus you only get to treat the symptoms. Once you're infected, it stays with you for life. So don't get infected.

Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.

There are tons of strains of herpesvirus, and many of them can "strike" on any part of the body. He may have been born with some of these strains, and you may have too.

They can test for herpes, but I don't believe the test tells you which strain you have, so it's pretty worthless from what I've heard. I think something like 1 in 3 Americans has some strain or another.

Your sore could have been a cold sore (herpes simplex 1, commonly called oral herpes, or simplex 2, called genital herpes), a syphilis sore (sore doesn't hurt usually, you can get a blood test for this) or a canker sore (hurts really, really bad, but goes away). Chances are, if you are really both virgins, it was a cold sore or canker sore. Have you or your boyfriend ever had a cold sore or canker sore before?

Next time you have one, have your doctor look at it.

If neither of you has ever been sexually active in any fashion then neither of you is at risk of developing a sexually transmitted disease but bear in mind that Herpes is the name of a family of viruses and 'genital' herpes is but 1 of these types and in fact cold sores are most typically caused by Herpes Simplex which is presently in nearly all young adults. You should be OK but bear in mind that oral sex tends to progress to other activities so if you are not ready ask him to back off and if you are ready please use a condom.

It can be herpes because the guy could be lying. Get checked and even if it is don't worry there are medications that can help control herpe outbreaks.

You should go get checked first. Then, you need to think long and hard about his honesty about remaining a virgin. That was very coincidental for a cold sore to pop up within a few days of doing that. Good luck and hop everything works out for you!
