I get it all the time because I am a very small woman. It is assumed, all the time, that I am both helpless and intellectually inferior. While that isn't as harsh a blow to my identity as some suffer - being a minority or gay or, god forbid, fat in this culture seems to be criminal at times - it does give me a very good idea of what it is like to be stereotyped and looked down upon.

Everyone is different. Some more different than others. The thing I hate most is that people assume things. My niece has been in a wheelchair since birth. People do look at her differently and a lot of them assume that because she's in a wheelchair that she's mentally challenged. So not true! They also allow more from her (than other "normal" people) and it drives me and her mother nuts. For instance, If she's in someones way, that person will say "Oh, no it's okay". When really it's not. We do try to teach her basic manners but it's hard when other people say it's okay cuz she's in a wheelchair.

All of us are different and it is yet another sad part of human nature the we all judge others in some way or another. Its that very nature we try to hold in check to form a civil society. regardless of how different you may be from your neighbor there are always good things that are naturally opposed to our human nature and are worth striving for. On is loving our neighbors, another is forgiving those that do us wrong and another great one is to live in an honorable manner. yup if two people were the same on the planet one of them would be redundant. :-)

I had a lot of the things kids made fun of in school. I had glasses, hang-me-down clothes (out of style by the time I got them) so I was poor, and I was a Tomboy so people called me a dyke even though I'm straight. Take your pick.

Yes...thats the story of my life. Im 18 and live in Arizona.
And my whole life is people being negative towards me. They judge me, before they even get to know me. It sucks, and it is very hard. But I just look to the good things in my life. I know you have heard that before, but it really is true. I used to be very selfhating. But i hope this helps you. If you wanna talk some more, just email me.

Yes. I've been looked down at since I was little and had suffered from self-esteem issues and it usually takes people time to get to know me and then they start liking me. I hate that.

yeah, i was a real fatso, and now that i'm skinny i see how differently people have treated me. it happens to everyone though. we are all somewhere where we don't fit in at some point, and get made fun of, or a nasty look or whatever. We can't all fit in everywhere.

of course. But that's preferable to people looking down at you because you are boring or average. Who ever wanted to be average?
