Try to take I-5. The speed limit is higher. Also, if you drive at night, you might make it in less time. I live in Sacramento and I've made it to LA in 6 hr driving at night on 1-5. Careful in Bakersfield, there may be parts where there is no gas for like 37 miles, so just make sure you are good on gas & stop when you can. I hope his helps.

About 8 hours of driving time if you don't get stuck in a traffic jam in LA. If you are taking the 405 and there's lots of traffic, look for the toll road around Irvine. It costs around $4-5 dollars but goes around the gridlock that can occur where 405 meets 5.
