I just turned fifteen and have been dancing since I was almost fourteen. I danced a little bit when I was young and I came into the ballet world knowing next to nothing. I took about 4 months of beginning ballet, and now I've been in intermediate ballet for almost a year. I'm going on pointe in March (yay!!) and will be in the advanced ballet.

I don't know how old you are, but I hope this has been an encouragement to you. People told me (when I was thirteen) that I was too old to start ballet and get anywhere, but I've worked so hard and now I'm going to be dancing alongside those people who told me that!

Many start at ages 2-4 but a lot of people still start when they're older. I'd say the oldest age to become professional would be....in the 20's. It really depends on the person's body though. How fast they can learn, how flexible and strong they are and the amount of passion they have for ballet. Don't get yourself discouraged no matter what your age is though. Anyone can go far with something they truly love. Go for it! No one can stop you but you. "Reach for the moon, because even if you fall you might catch a star."

Well I am a ballet dancer and the best age to start ballet is 8 or 9 because at that time your body is not formed and you are more flexible and that time your muscles in your body begin to form. But if you start later you won't have as much experience as the one that started earlier. I'm suggesting to start early but if you really want to be a ballet dancer well then, go for it, but remember you have to work really hard.!!!!!! BYE =)

I started when i was 13 and now im 17. I was in class (and for the most part still am) with all these little girls and it was so awkward! I honestly wish i started earlier, but ballet was the only younger class i was in. In my Jazz and Tap classes im with girls my age. But even though i started late, i love it! My idol (donyelle jones) didnt start dancing until she was 18! She's 26 now and she's absoultely amazing! So it all depends on how bad you want it! If you like to do it, go for it! Age shouldn't matter!

You can start at any age, but a girl who starts at age 11 or 12 will likely be put with younger girls, which may make her feel badly. I would suggest starting either by age 8, or as an adult when you can take classes with other adults. If an older girl really wants to start, see if she can also take private lessons in order to catch up to her age group.

i started ballet in the summer when i was 11 and i hated it. all the other girls were so much younger than me and i felt so akward for many reasons. so start your child when she is younger than eight because i quit after 8 weeks.

good luck!

the old set don't do much balloting and I guess it is old age that makes them cynical!!
I don't think it is solely to do with girls of any age and probably get somewhere on their free bus pass!! I thank you!!
