I went to the bank to deposit a check in my husband's account, and she told me that there would be an eight day hold on the chech due to my husband's account history. He has had this account since September, and we have deposited a lot of checks, and never had this problem. Now our rent is due and there are not enough funds in the account to pay it! Why wouldn't they deposit it if they have in the past?

a hold can be placed on a check if the account is new (90 days is still to new ) if the account has been negative a few times or if it is a non local bank.it also depends on the amount of the check.

You know something, it is so incredibly aggravating having to go through that, it really depends on who helped you at the bank, and also if the checks was very large. I go through this often, I changed banks more than a year ago, because someone stole over 12K from my account creating false checks and the bank paid them. After that I closed all my accts. and went with BofA, big mistake!!
They are the worst of all, you really should've asked if there will be a hold in advance, you have to ask, I personally deposit very large checks and they say the same thing, want to put a hold for 7 days, so I go directly to my branch and ask them to only put a 2 day hold and they do. You need to call customer service and let them know, or better yet go straight to your branch, speak to the manager and ask him to make the hold less long, as you urgently need the funds or else will be charged late fees for paying your rent late and you might even get an eviction notice,

Don't take no for an answer, let them know you've deposited many checks and never had this problem, (have them explain it to you, they do this) you shouldn't have walked away, you needed to negotiate it with them, even if they're "correct" don't stand for it. Just go back and do it, now and in the future always ask, is there going to be a hold on this? If so for how long? This will save you all that trouble.(What bank is it) Good luck

Ask to speak with a bank manager. Request that they show you exactly what in the account history has led to their decision.

Sometimes banks hold check funds if there is not the same or more money in the account already. They want to make sure the amount clears before you have access to the funds.

I suggest you to suggest your husband to close his bank account and move his money to another bank.

I also suggest you to suggest your husband to save half his paycheck until he has a year of salary.

If he is fired you will be in a lot of trouble.
