And Blue Ray currently has how many problems?
Sony has had to reduce their intended shipment over and over because of delay in Blue Ray Technology.
They started at 2 mill for the release date, then it was reduced and reduced till 1 mill week prior to release they said there would be 400,000 for release day. Final numbers at release was less then 150,000 PS3 released in the US.
Blue Ray looks great on paper, but until they can get more of their systems into the market, it's crap.
XBOX360 is releaseing an add-on HD Player.
Remeber XBOX360 has been out for a year, it's had their problems as well (heating issues) but they've had a year to solve it and best of all it is AVALIABLE!!! =)

PS3 plays Blu Ray discs but they are not all on 50GB discs. All so far are only on the 25GB version of Blu Ray. XBOX 360 has dual layer DVD at it's highest is 9GB. right now all of that space is moot. There are no PS3 games that are over 5 GB right now. With all the graphical strengths of the consoles they do not need so much space. An old music CD was 700 mb to fit that much music. Nowadays you can fit an entire album in good quality in about 115 mb. That extra space does not make CD a superior platform. We will all wait and see what happens. Also PS3's have not had that many defects. Have you all forgotten the Xbox 360 Red Ring of death in the first shipments. Microsoft even agreed to replace all of these consoles in a recall. I am waiting though who knows.

PS3 has a BluRay player built-in, for the 360 there's a HD-DVD player option you can buy (one of the reasons the 360 costs so much less, the player is an extra item)
At this point, no one knows whether HD-DVD or Blu-Ray will become the widely accepted standard. It's like VHS vs Beta all over again....

But what good does it do? And no, the games aren't made on BlueRay discs, the PS3 only has the ability to play BlueRay DVD's. Lastly, do notice the several hundred dollar price difference.

Blue-Ray = 25 gigs
Dual Blue-Ray = 50 gigs
Games ARE made on the Blue-Ray disk format for the PS3. Sony has gotten alot of critism about adding the Blue-Ray to the PS3, but Sony has stood by its statements saying the Blue-Ray is needed for the PS3 games.
Here is a quote from the Blue Dragon Creator for the Xbox360.
"Blue Dragon ships on three DVDs, making it bigger than any Xbox 360 title to date. According to Sakaguchi, the game required compression technology to fit onto the three disks. In uncompressed form, the game's data takes up over 30 Gigs of space!"
If Blue Dragon was on a Blue-Ray format then it would only need 1 disk, not three. Xbox360 games are made on a DVD9 disk format, but Microsoft has a compression technology that lets them fit more game information on the disk. Gears of War is a great example, but did the great graphics limit the gameplay time? That will remain to be seen until someone can push the Xbox360 to its limits, and how far the PS3 can be pushed.
Also, Factor 5 (Developer for Lair) says that it takes 4 gigs for just one map of play and if you put that on a DVD9 disks, then you are limited to 2 maps....so Blue-Ray format is needed. Remember the HD-DVD add on for the Xbox360 only plays movies and not games.

Yes, you can play 3D Blu-Ray discs on your PS3, as long as the firmware is up-to-date, you have a good enough HDMI cable, and a 3D TV. Just turning 3D on within the TV is sort of a fake 3D -- it looks at the picture, tries to figure out what's in the foreground and what's in the background, and shows a a 3D-ish picture. An actual 3D movie has all that depth information encoded as part of the movie, so the 3D all displays exactly the way it's supposed to.
