I've seen the word alot when reading about the middle ages in particular. It means to throw a person out an opening near the top of a very tall building. A great example of this is in Mel Gibson's "Braveheart" when English King Edward the I is talking to his son, future king Ed II, and Eddy Jr.s "young advisor/lover" (E II was gay). Anyway King Ed I suddenly grabs future king Ed II's boyfriend and throws him out the window to his death. This is a great example of defenestration.
