Possibly - pole represents men's body. Woudn't a man want that she played with his body like this, for starters?
Possibly it also represents fallos.
Also, it is just a prop to make their dancing more interesting. It helps to show all the stretches that she wants to demonstrate. Hanging from a pole is sexy if done with the purpose to look that way. Pole is a popular prop, so it already puts the mind of those watching in the state of "oh, i'm about to see something sexy."

As a guy, the pole thing really means nothing. It's a prop, just like if there's a swing there or a chair they use in their show. I've seen some amazing feats with those poles and let me say, some of those girls are amazing at what they can do. Remember, it's a job to them.

Maybe because the pole is a phallic symbol? Interesting point.

Because it is a lot easier than a good act...stripping is an art form, and it is a lost art.
