Contrary to popular belief the flu shot cannot give you the flu. You were probably already getting sick and came "down" with it shortly after you recieved the shot. You can get a different strand of the flu even if you have gotten a shot because the shot only protects you against the biggest baddest strains of the virus. Mostly the flu affects the respiratory tract and GI symptoms are rare. Plus they do not use a live virus anymore like they used to, they use a dead or extremly weak version.

I have gotten the flu shot during both of my pregnancies and neither time has it given me the flu.The only negative thing about it is that your arm hurts pretty abd the next day-thats it.
My OB highly reccomended it because if you do get the flu during pregnancy you have a much higher chance of being hospitilized.
And the shot works too-3 people in my fam had the flu really bad and I got nothing.

It is recommended that pregnant women get the flu shot after their first trimester. While pregnant your immune system can be less effective and contracting the flu while pregnant is very dangerous for the fetus. Most flu vaccines are made with a KILLED virus, so it would be impossible to get the flu from it. However, pregnant women should not get FluMist, which uses a live virus. Also, check if you can get a vaccine that is thermerisol (mercury) free.

I got flu shots during both of my pregnancies, and I didn't get the flu either time. Of course, I did come down with a nasty case of food poisoning, but there's not much a doctor can do with that one...

You can not get the flu from the flu shot. It is a dead and dramaticlly weakened. The only way you can get sick is if you were ill before you got the shot. Most doctors recommend that all pregnant women that are past their 1st trimester and in flu season get the shot.

I got one when I was in my third tri. No problems, no sickness, nothing. As for the idiots who think that they are harmful and useless, shame on them. They obviously are misinformed. My OBGYN and General Practitioner have highly recommended flu shots for pregnant women. It immunizes the baby for six months after birth. They also stressed anyone living in the household to get one for extra protection. Although the flu strain you are vaccinated for may not be the one that goes around this year, it is better to be safe than sorry. Follow you instincts. Do your homework, ask a lot of Doctors what they think.

I get a mandatory flu shot every time I am pregnant. I have never gotten the flu from it. It is for your health and the safety of your baby, I hate shots, but I always let them give me one to be on the safe side

It's a good idea to get the flu shot while pregnant. And getting the shot won't give you the flu...

I got the flu shot (during my 2nd trimester) and nothing happened. You can't get it during your 1st trimester but you can get it during your 2nd or 3rd trimester.
My doc recommends it but leaves it up to you. I've gotten one for the last few years and I've never had a problem. If you've gotten one before and nothing happened, then you'll probably be ok.
My husband INSISTS that the flu shot made him sick. He refuses to ever get one again.
Hope that helps.
Good luck.
