I think the stress of being in the public eye is probably very difficult. But I've also realized that in order to be a celebrity, you have to be a little bit nuts. It sounds fun, right? But after two or three days of that insanity, most of us would say no thanks, and go back to our normal lives. Those people absolutely thrive on attention and spectacle, and nobody like that can sustain a normal relationship. Of course, there are exceptions, but thats my general perception.

Actually, there are some that do. Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward have been married for a very long time. So have Tom Hanks and his wife, and John Travolta and his wife. My favorite couple to point out is Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy. They passed away recently, but they were married for almost 50 years. The sad thing is the Fourth Estate assumes we are interested in only the shallow, the bad and the failures of life. You'll have to look deeper to find worthwhile reading.

some do some don't. But the failure rate is probably related to ego, seperation for work and close proximity to very attractive people leading one astray

Like the roles they play in movies, their life(style) is based on phantasies. That's why they tend not to work out in real life.
