Tradition started in olden times, it was given as a gift and later the guy caught the fruitcake giver kissing his old lady so he beaned the fruitcake giver on thee olde noggin.
Eat it or use it as a weapon. Now you can eat it or use it as a door stop. Break it up under the wheels of your car and use it for traction in the snow. Have a fruitcake throwing contest to hit a target. Ha Just kidding. Some of them are quite good and some are...well...weapons.

I personally love fruit cake. But it is supposed to mean "fruitfulness and prosperity is wished upon you for the next year". And for those that hate fruit cake, change it to suit your own tastes. My family hates those candied fruits that are put in it, so I just use almonds, raisins, golden raisins and dried currents, and soak it in 1/2 cup of Captain Morgan's spiced rum wrap and wait till Christmas eve to bring it out. Great with Egg Nog or Hot Cidar!

not everybody hates fruit cake. I dont get where people get the idea that everyone hates it. if everyone hated it then it wouldnt be made or sold. I like fruitcake. have since I was a child. my family loves it too. please speak for yourself rather then make generalizations.

I love fruit cake.. its just like any thing else too much and you get sick of it.. its a joyous thing eating the gifts that people make for you over the holidays..be thankful if you have someone that cares for you enough to make you a fruit cake..

i've actually never eaten fruitcake before. my mom usually never cooks things she doesn't like..so thats probably why i havent had it before.
