In my own idea, this is true considering the incident with former Senator Mark Foley. Well, he went and serve the church and become involved in promoting anti-sex predators but he turns out the sex predator himself, right?
And how about thosee people who always goes to church but don't have a good and moral values. For example, Jessica, my bestfriend is so involve in participating to church and other bible club things, but in real life she's just another sloth for f**king a lot of guys in school and she even takes drugs.
Anyways, tell me about what you think...
and even give some example if you want!

Is the essay based on the premise that a religious hypocrite is somehow inherently worse than a nonreligious hypocrite? Well, I guess that would subject to the one who is either observing or being subjected to the hypocrisy. I mean, regardless of what someone believes or doesn't believe they still swing the exact same bat. A nonreligious hypocrite could beat you silly saying he did it for your own good. A religious hypocrite could beat you saying God loves you. Either way you got beat with the same hypocritical bat. Does it make you 'feel' any better or worse if the hypocrite assaulting you wears pants or a dress? Maybe you could argue that the perception of hypocrisy has varying degrees of value. Since hypocrisy is not produced or restricted by ideology or religion then it would be difficult to rate it accordingly.

I think the worst kind of hypocrite is a hypocrite. In any group of society that claims good morals (and they get fewer each day) there will be those that join and act kind and moral until they go off on their own.
In the church's case, there are two difficulties. One, only the hypocrites are publicized. Two, "christian" has become an incredibly broad term. People claim that Hitler was a "christian" and if you're basing someone's christianity on that, then almost anyone is a good person in Hitler's shadow.
It is sad that there are so many who dirty the name of true Christians. But as Christians, we need to try to get them to repent. Jesus Christ did not come to save holy people, he came to save sinners and it is sinners that He calls.
Lastly, I am assuming you are not a Christian so you wouldn't believe that being a Christian is anything good, so why would you care?

all hypocrites are bad, whether religious or not...we just see a lot of religious people portrayed publicly and it stands out more in our mind. People who go to church and try real hard to live good lives, but fail... can be considered hypocrites. But, I tend to put myself in their shoes no and again...I'm not perfect and as much as I'd like to do the right thing often times I get steered the wrong way.

This is very very true, usually religious hypocrites are the people who will burn down an abortion clinic but then support a war in which 1000's of women and children are killed, look at the war in Iraq for example.

YES!!! These people are lying to themselves and others and condemning others when they're in the same boat. They give a bad name to the christians who do not condemn other people, freely give help and try to stay in line with the Bible's teachings.

Lets' expand the scope of your question...are serial killers, rapists, child abusers, politicians also included in your definition of 'hypocrite'? After all, don't each and every one use the cloak of civilized normalcy to mask their true activities? I think so. Look around you and then ask yourself "what does a murderer/rapist/serial killer/whatever look like". Gives a whole new awareness of just what 'hypocrisy' looks like, doesn't it?

yes it is true! expecially when the ministers wife is jealous of women talking to her minister husband. that really hurts, i thought i found the perfect church until she started giving me dirty looks and would not allow me to talk to the minister alone. even she judged without knowing about me and my problems. that's bad!
