Yes... the last alignment was in may of 2000. It was one of two type of alignments the "Straight Line".
The next alignment will be in March of 2675. So quite a ways away.

The planets are not going to line up this month. Look up and you can see various planets, but not all at the same time, as they are in different parts of the sky. Clearly, then, they are not going to suddenly move around so they are all lined up in a few days. Jupiter takes 12 Earth years to orbit the Sun, so it isn't going to show a noticeable shift in less than 10 days! Even if that all did happen, it would not cause anything to happen on Earth. Apart from the Sun, the body with the greatest effect on the Earth is the Moon, and what does it do? It causes the tides. That's all. Do you think that is going to result in the end of the world? Those who have been saying the world will end are either gullible people repeating rubbish that they have seen or read because they haven’t thought in any detail just what the claims are all about, or they are the fraudsters who know that nothing will happen but are scaremongering and trying to get people to buy their books or other items. People have been asking about the supposed 3 days of darkness starting on December 23. This is interesting (sort of) because it's two days AFTER the world is supposed to end on December 21 when the Mayan calendar "runs out" and we get hit by the planet Nibiru. So those people obviously don't believe the world is going to end, or they wouldn’t be asking about something that’s supposed to happen 2 days afterwards. In that case, why would they believe this piece of rubbish either? Why should there be 3 days of darkness? That either means (1) there will be a huge amount of cloud cover so the light from the Sun is totally blocked - and even the Moon doesn't affect our clouds. (2) the Earth will stop rotating for 3 days. Why would it do that, and why would it then start up again? (3) The Sun will switch off for 3 days. Are any of these even possible? Absolutely not. Where did you read this rubbish, and why do you have the slightest idea that it could possibly be true? What were you thinking about when you were at school? Didn't you learn anything? How gullible are you? Would you like to give me £10,000? I think I can stop there, as I'm sure you understand what I'm telling you by now :) Enjoy yourself on December 21 ... and the day after ... and the day after that ...

Although very improbable it is possible for all the planets to line up. In September of 1186 there was an alignment out to Saturn including the sun and moon, this included a full lunar eclipse of the sun. There was one with a partial eclipse of the sun in February of 1964 I do believe (I could be wrong on the year though).

Indeed. As a matter of fact, they were, exept for Pluto(which isn't considered a planet anyways anymore lately), all lined up on March 15, 1982.
Since Jupiter's dimensions of mass and gravity are almost stellar, there were concerns of what this accumulation of gravity would do to Earth(like a "tidal wave" in the Earth's crust, generating devastating global earthquakes). But as we know, nothing happend due to the vast interplanetary distances.

Yes its possible. It would be all the planets lined up in a row. Astronomically speaking it would just be a rare event. On Earth, the Astrologists would have a field day.

It depends, really, on what we mean by "line up".
I assume you are speaking of a lining up as viewed from Earth. In that case the answer is a resounding "YES"! This alignment is called a "syzygy" (No, I'm not making this up) and while it's not a common occurrence it's not all that rare either. Has happened many many times in historical times.

It's certainly depicted in sci-fi films, however I'm not sure about real-life though
It certainly seems possible, although might take a hell of a lot time :)
