You should go for a gynecological exam. The pap test detects a virus called HPV which causes cervical cancer. Almost everyone carries HPV, but a certain few strains lead to cancer. I have a pretty aggressive strain and have to a pap done a few times a year. It's uncomfortable and embarrassing the first time, but there is really nothing to it. Go to a highly recommended doctor. You might want to make sure the doctor is an obstetrician and can help you with fertility. Good luck!

It kind of is from not havin' one done before. If it's a serious condition, they could've detected it earlier and probably fixed it. Also, it may be that your not detecting when your ovulating (releasing an egg) properly. They have fertility kits, both available at drug stores, wal*mart, or even online. I'll post the links below.
As for the pap smear, it's not scary like everyone makes it out to be. Here's a website that tells you what all they do. It doesn't hurt not one bit. I'm sure you'll be fine. Make sure that you go to an OBGYN (Obsterician Gynecologist) 'cause they deal with child delivery as well.
I hope this helped and good luck!

The Papanicolaou smear (named after Dr. Papanicolaou), is intended to screen for cervical cancer. It is one of this century's greatest preventative health care success stories.
The actual procedure is quick and should not be excessively painful. In order to visualize the cervix (the opening of the uterus where menstrual flow comes out), the doctor must use a vaginal speculum to open up the vagina. The speculum may be stainless steel or plastic. A steel speculum will usually be warmed up with either a warming pad or warm water under the tap prior to the test. Plastic specula are popular alternatives because they are disposable, but some physicians find them awkward to use.
You may or may not need to put your feet up into stirrups for the exam. For the sake of comfort, some physicians will do the exam without stirrups. Ask your doctor.
Some people will feel pain when the speculum is being inserted and opened, but if you are able to fully relax, you should not feel a great deal of pain. There will be discomfort for certain, but hopefully not pain.
The doctor will obtain two swab samples from the outside of the cervix. The second one especially may cause a momentary cramp or pinch.
After that, the speculum will be removed from the vagina and your doctor may or may not examine you internally using two fingers inside the vagina and the other hand on your lower abdomen. This is called the bimanual examination, and is intended to assess the size, position and shape of the uterus and ovaries.
After your exam, hopefully your doctor will be able to advise you on the various things that may be contributing to your inability to conceive so far.

go. Even if u didn't have sex before you sre supposed to start yearly paps at 18. It really isn't all that bad, it is actually worse thinking about going than actually doing it. It is quick & painless, though a bit embarassing. you should DEFINITELY get it done, as you have been sexually active & over 18. Even if you have no STD's, there can be other problems, such as cervical cancer or cysts. Pap tests for abnormal cervical cells. Please, do yourself a favor & go, especially if u are trying to get pregnant.

Having a pap test has nothing to do with your ability to get pregnant. The test checks for signs of, among other things, cervical cancer. Watch the attached Nat'l Library of Medicine video.
You should also talk to your OB/GYN about your ability to conceive.
