I prefer to see them involved in humanitarian work rather than see them involved in politics or US foreign policy.

I question their motives. They are sooo rich, they should share with the poor no matter what. I am not even rich and I make sure I give to those who need more than I. But they are in it for publicity. They more publicity they get, the better chance they have of landing the best roles, etc. Look at Brad Pitt. He never did squat before he met Angelina. He has other motives. Why didn't he do all that good before he got pretty much sucked nto it by his girlfriend? Sounds fishy to me.

Once in a while it seems like a celebrity is just doing it because they feel like they have to. It seems like Bono would be genuine about it, but, say, Paris Hilton would not. Either way, celebrities will get criticism either BECAUSE they do humanitarian work (like Pitt and Jolie do) or because they *don't* (people used to rip on Bill Gates for not giving back enough).

I would have to say that it's all about timing. A star donating a million dollars to charity before their big movie releases (which they'll probably rack in 5-20 million) is kind of suspicious. On the other hand, finding out about humanitarian work that was not intentionally leaked to the media seems sincere and humble.

No matter what their motives I think it is a good thing. It brings attention to causes that need it and these people have tons of money that could help others who don't. There are so many celebrities who sit on their butts and do nothing and then there are some who try and I give them credit for it.

I don't feel the need to waste my time and brain cells wondering about a stranger's motives. I don't know them! I can wonder all I want, it means nothing and will never lead to any sort of reality. Who cares? If they do good things, then good things get done. If they do them for publicity, then good things still get done. I doubt the impoverished or diseased lives that they touch really care what their motives are. Why should I?

Most are doing it just to make the news. Look at Sheen, he slept in a cardboard box for a couple of hours to advance the plight of the homesless. Then went home to his mansion in Bev. Hills. Media went nuts over that, he was caring.
The Celebrities today are fake, see through. The older ones went to the troops overseas to entertain them, one even set up a hospitol Saint Jude.

love the name and avatar. I like them doing their work as long as they dont whine to me about how I need to give money, I have none, im not the one who gets paid 20 million a picture or album.
IF they all cared so much, they would all take 5 yrs salary and wipe out hunger and pverty but you know what it would resurface because people who are given things donot learn and are lazy

Well, even if their motives aren't 100% pure, their work probably inspires others to get involved in worthy causes, too. So some good still comes of it anyway, and that's a good thing, don't you think?

i think people with that much power are setting an example for the rest of the world to do this work. it's definitely a good thing, whether they, as a celebrity, benefit from it or not.
