No, you don't buy anything a size smaller than what you need, ever. Not only will it be uncomfortable, it won't last as long. The pull on the seams and fabric will stretch it out quicker than one in your normal size, and it can tear because of it.
To hide a baby belly, look for a higher waist so you don't get a bulge over the top of the girdle. Also look for one with a leg, not just a panty, so you don't end up with bulges at your hips.

My favorite style in my wardrobe is from Cupid. (Top left on this page, Style #5059.) It's not expensive, and it gives me better control than the ones I spent much more on. Extra control panels help with any bulges, stays all around give me back my waistline, and the hook and eye closures make it easier to get in and out of. I have 3, and they have lasted me for 5 years, proving that something doesn't have to cost a lot to be good.

No, buy one that is your size now.. Note about girdles though.
I was very heavy after having my 3 kids and a doctor told me that a girdle is fine for a special occasion but wearing one every day will not allow those muscles to go back to shape. He said that simple exercises such as trying to hold your stomach in is good for toning those stretched out baby muscles.

I have never worn a girdle but if I had to buy one I would go to a real lingere store - Victorias Secret - and ask one of the sales team. Everytime I have had a question about a bra I have always asked someone who works at a good store - that is what they do for a living and they really do know what they are talking about.

Well, it is a good idea to wear a girdle but if you choose a smaller size you would simply be too uncomfortable. You might even give up wearing it due to that or not wear long enough. I would say wear the right size. It works.

Yes I did and they were horrible. My mother was quite cross with me when I stopped wearing them telling me that I would suffer with a bad back if I didn't wear them. I already was under a specialist for a bad back and, later, after seeking private treatment I was told to throw them away as they were the CAUSE of my problems. They were bad for the circulation, gave us indigestion, made us roast in the warm weather and so I could go on. No doubt they were created by men who wanted women to look like something which they thought women 'should' look like. Is there a man on this earth who has worn, or who would wear, something extremely uncomfortable so that he would look good for a woman. No, I think they stop at using a comb and aftershave and some don't even use those nowadays.

No, your supposed to buy according to your size, if not you will have excess fat hanging over the girdle and that wont look good. Try the new body shaper products lik Spanx. You can get them at high end department stores and they work very good. Hope this helps.

I have the same problem. You buy your size or a size LARGER, not smaller. Go to J. C. Penneys and try them on. It has to be comfortable.
I only wear mine for a few hours on special occasions because they can help cause acid reflux, blocked intestines, and breathing problems ... especially if you sit for prolong periods, like at a computer.
Exercise is the way to go for long term relief. But it doesn't hurt to wear one in the mean time. it gives me a bboost and an incentive to keep exercising.
Good luck!
