Safest way is to get an electrician in. I was always tasught that when wiring up the best way to remember was by using the second letter of the colour as a direction. In other words, bLue, L being the second letter that wire went to the left. bRown, R being the second letter that went to the right and obviously E goes into earth with a proper sleeve on it but still recon you would be better off getting a qualified electrician on the job.

Sounds like you have a 30 amp or 50 amp line, If you don't know about electricity, you should hire an electrician.

That being said, your cable will have either: 1. a black wire, a red wire, a white wire and a ground. or 2. a black wire, a white wire and a ground.

In the black red and white, the black and red go to the breaker, the white and ground go to the grounding bar at the bottom of the fuse/breaker box.

In the black and white wire, the black and white go to the breaker and the ground goes to the ground bar.

If you have never done this before hire an electrician, you're playing with a lot of power with a 220 line.

By the way those are American codes, some codes are different around the US too.

Careful Dude, here in the sunny UK its not legal to wire your own cooker up to the mains got to get a qualified Sparky. Could well invalidate your house insurance if it goes pear shaped. Not to mention that given the amount of amps a cooker pulls you would be very lucky not to vist the world hereafter if you got a shock its not the kind of thing you tend to walk away from. Not worth taking a risk.

I'm a sparky and I've had to investigate fires for insurance companies. They take a very dim view of people taking it on their own head to do electrical work.
