Hell yes, we test police and firemen. we test spots people. We even test the Janitor's that clear are kids schools. So yes we need to test teacher's and right now. They are, next to US the parent's. The most influential people are children lives. They emulate them and damm it they should emulate someone who is not a criminal and most certainly not on drugs. Great question dude.

I don't believe in mandatory drug testing. The true test is whether children are learning. You make an assumption that - if the teacher is 'drug-free', then their mind is 'clear'. That may be or may n ot be. What is truly n eeded is more clear, consistent, and direct communication between the teacher and the parent(s).
I don't trust my kids minds to a teacher, I trust them to teach them.
If you were to test for drugs, which ones? Who would pay? How will you handle appeal processes? Is there a '3 strikes and you're out' policy for your testing?

Absolutely! If they are testing the students, the teachers should set an example and be the first ones in line!

Definately. How can we expect our kids to learn not to use drugs if the people teaching them do? I know of 2 idiot women who are teachers at a middle school who regularly use pot. My stepdaughter would never have been allowed in either of their classes.

Almost every other job requires drug testing. I don't see why teaching shouldn't require it, too. And alcohol testing would be a good idea, too. I had a teacher once that always smelled like whiskey and he sometimes he would "pass-out" during class.

NYC school teachers, yes. They also should be tested for psychological stability. And for burn out syndrome.

Some of the most brilliant people were able to teach and express themselves best while influenced by drugs...this is a great experience for you kids. I love being exposed to that type of learning, everything is not from a text book or learning program. It teaches you about things that are past high school
