Bangalore if you can stand the traffic and pollution . . . and it isn't cheap either. Goa if you need the "liberal cosmopolitan" place without traffic and pollution. Sorry, there are not too many choices. Mysore is more peaceful, but not too cosmpolitan and liberal.

Well,If you are looking for a peace full place...then 1st place goes to Bangalore...the weather is too gud and the people in bangalore are very co-operative.But keep in mind that Real-estate industry in bangalore is in its peak....so make sure u make a good deal....Negative points::1.Traffic is Hell 2.No night life(City closes by 11.30)
2nd Place:Hyderabad.
you can buy house at real cheap rates.its a big city,nite life is gud.cost of living is comperatively cheap with other cosmopolitan cities....Negative point::Too hot weather!!!
