I was driving the other day and I went over a pretty hard bump in the road I noticed that my rpm gauge went down past 0 I tried to give the car some gas and it shut down...tried to start it again and it would never catch. I've been told by several ppl that it sounds like either it didnt have any gas or that my fuel line broke when I went over the bump...I had one guy look at it and he says that its not getting any gas another guy said that I should have some type of reset switch to fix this problem....if I do in fact have one of these where is it located cause the other guy didnt find anything in my trunk. and where exactly is the fuel pump/injector located in my car cause the other guy couldnt find it.

Mitsubishi does not use such a device. The only manufacturer in America that does is Ford Motor Company.
So -- at this point it is back to the simple diagnostics.
1) Check for fuel delivery. Ask a friend to sit in the car, and while you LISTEN to the fuel filler tube, with the fuel cap OFF, ask him to turn the key to the RUN position, but do not try to start it. For about the first 1-1/2 to 3 seconds, the fuel pump should turn on. It is in the fuel tank. If you cannot hear it, check the fuel pump fuse in the fuse box, either under the dash or the one under the hood. If it isn't blown, chances are that the pump will need to be replaced.
2) Check for spark. Disconnect one of the plug wires and place a screwdriver in the boot and make contact with the metal connector. Place the screwdriver near a bolt or bracket and hold the HANDLE while someone cranks the engine. If there is spark, you have done all YOU can.
At this point, if you have fuel pressure and spark, you will need to gain access to a code reader or scanner to read the computer for failure codes. If you cannot locate one, it will be time to take it to a repair facility for diagnostics and subsequent repair.

Good Luck and Merry Christmas

Take it to a mechanic that can properly diagnose the problem. A true mechanic would hook a fuel pressure gauge to the the fuel rail and verify the fuel pressure is adequate. Also, he will verify every other shock failure prone sensor in the car is functioning. Some cars have a rollover relief valve that will automatically shut the engine off if the car rolls over. My advice, take it to the dealer if a good mechanic is not available. Otherwise you'll just be wasting your time and your money.

Have your car towed to your local dealer and have them reset you fuel shutoff safety switch. The computer thinks your car has been in an accident and has shut the fuel off.

The other suggestion that I have is for you to purchase the repair manual for your car from either Chilton or Haynes at your local auto parts store. It will also have the procedure in it to reset the fuel shut off.

If you still have the original owner's manual, the procedure to perform the reset might be in there as well.

Good luck.
