well guy, things can get confusing on here.. and don't let anyone tell you hackers only go after big time people.. not true.. you sit and listen 2 some of these stories on here, bank accounts whiped out .. identity stolen.. you have every reason 2 be worried..my most recent hacker, was inquiring about a 209,000 dollar loan in my name.. so i no long have a real name or address in accounts.. it's one safe way.. never pay bills online, never shop online.. just never do anything that needs personal information online.. now i can't tell you which anti is best.. because some aren't compatible on some comps.. some say the freebies are just as good as the ones you pay 4.. but whatever you choose, download spybot.com as a side kick and alternate with the other.. never run 2 at the same time.. always update before any scan.. scan everyday if need be.. heres one that i just downloaded a few days ago that i found 2 be everything i was looking 4.. www.spyware blaster.com.. and when you get there, click onto javacool software.. and read what it has 2 say.. i often wondered why hackers couldn't be stopped before entering.. and why we, had 2 scan 2 find them.. well this site says it will lock your front and backdoor, even lock your basement windows.. without a scan.. and stop hackers, cookie trackers and viruses, before they enter.. and i need 2 thank the man on answers 4 passing this site on : ) and i will.. but if you already have mischief on your comp, you need a good virus spy protector 2 get rid of the cootie bugs that are on there now.. and then let spyware blaster, do it's job.. and i hope it will.. the reason why i think it's working 4 me, is that i've had spybot on comp many many moons, and today was the 1st. time ever 2 be congraulated 4 having a clean scan : ) try it, it's free.. and if you don't like it, delete it.. and if you need 2 know how 2 remove your name and address and put in fake, we can help you with that too.. just ask : )

Well first off your going to want to get a better anti-spyware. yahoo is descent but there are programs that do better jobs like Webroots Spysweeper or Spyware Doctor. Also a software fire wall isn't necessarly the way to go. they work but sometime can cause many issues. I suggest a hardware firewall. Any router you purchase wil have one built in. I like Linksys and Buffalo routers then tend to work very well. For software firewall though Zone Alarm is good also Black Ice is excellent. Another good tip if you arn;'t already doing it is turn off yoru pc when you not using it which will stop unauthorized access. I should also mention being hacked is very rare. Yes it happens but 95% of all cases are done to business servers and not to home PCs.

I think a lot of people get too paranoid over someone hacking their computer and stealing information. I mean, if you got a fresh system with a decent firewall you're already pretty safe.
I think Hollywood has made us think that you can type some few things and hack into any computer. It's a lot more difficult than that. If you're up to date with your system, I doubt your "friend" knows any exploits that'll steal your information.
Just use your head and update your software.

XP Firewall doesn't watch your incoming connections, only your outbound ones! So you are not very safe. I recommend the free version of ZoneAlarm. It does exactly what you are looking for.
Second, download AdAware, SpyBot and Windows Defender. They will also help you identify any issues your other protection measures may have missed!

The XP firewall is pretty much useless. First, put yourself behind a router...then, make sure you have a software firewall too, I use ZoneAlarm and it works very well, plus, it's free!

What could you possibly have on your computer that someone else would want. You are obviously not a rocket scientist and I seriously doubt if you work for the CIA. I think you are paranoid. Your life was probably already hell.

make sure you have all yahoo related privacy controls set to the max then Id use black ice defender, make sure if your using broadband equipment (dsl, cable, wifi, router, switch, ect) that its internal firewall is set to the max. Their settings can usually be acced from you computer at the local address http://192.168.0.1 unless otherwise documented
