Surely one of the most fundamental elements of a democracy is the right to decide if you want foreign troops in your country. So why don't we just have another election and let the people of Iraq decide if they want us there or not?

In public opinion polls that have been held by a variety of international news bureaus up to 80% would like us to leave..if not immediate than with a time table..If a mandate was held and the answer was for us to leave you can guarantee the Bush administration would consider it invalid !!

It's a little more complex than that. The area is so unstable right now it would be easy for one of the other Mid-East powers to take control of Iraq. And then we would be right back in the middle of it.

While I don't agree with all the policies and politics of the situation, I do agree that we need to create a strong & stable Iraq before be leave the country.

After all, we made the mess - we should clean it up.

A sound Democratic idea in theory, but in actual practice? These are people who are getting blown to bits just by going out for a loaf of bread. Police officers are gunned down in broad daylight. I don't think the average Iraqi is interested in trying to cast a vote anywhere.

That sounds like a nice idea, but would they be safe enough to do so? If I were an Iraqi I might be afraid to vote right now, for fear of suicide bombers coming in to take out a bunch of people congregated in one place.

Are you another one of those losers who is not aware that Iraq has an elected government?

I think that you are right in some ways but everyone knows that they don't want us there so that would be pointless in some ways. I think that the troops should come home but I think that our government should send them home. We don't need to be over there anymore and that is all there is to that!
