Yes. In 1975 I went to Peru, by myself. I wanted to get as far away from the "beaten path" as possible... and to see Machu Picchu, high in the Andes mountains.
I flew to Ecuador and took the bus 500 miles south.I got sick immediately. Later, I was robbed of a little money. later I was cheated out of some money.
I arrived in Cuzco, Peru. The altitude is so high, I got sick again.
Took the train to Machu Picchu. At 5pm, I missed the train back to Cuzco and had to walk 6 miles to the nearest hotel, and share a room with 7 other travellers. Just had my wallet and the clothes on my back.
Returned to the USA and was sick for a month. Went to the hospital. Got some antibiotics. WAs then OK.
AND I WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN for the culture, the people, the scenery, the history, the adventure, the freedom.

Yeah, I moved to Saudi Arabia 20 years ago. To a young and naiive kid, that land WAS far far away both geographically and culturally. Wow! What a transition!

yes and peter pan molested me while i was there.........it was weird cuz peter pan looked alot like a noseless white woman and kept doing the moonwalk.......
