DeCaprio's role of Jake Dawson was borrowed from "J.Dawson"s" headstone in Halifax NS,Canada where the unclaimed victims were buried. His real name was James and he was 18 yrs old and a Stokers mate. There are over 200 buried here, in 3 different cemetaries, Fairview(Non-Denom.),Mount Olivet (Catholic- where my family members are buried) & the Jewish Cemetary. For months after the release of the movie there were always fresh flowers on Dawson's grave. Thanks to the movie, he was far more famous in death than in life. The character of "Rose" was fictitious, and added for the love story, also fictional. Most of the named characters were real. Part of the movie was filmed here in Halifax.

Ye she was but she wasnt the one in the movie, I dont know when she died though sorry!!
